dwarf puffer question

Post by sample789 »

i ordered two dwarf puffers out of my LFS and when i went to pick them up it came to my surprise that they were really really tiny, like not even a quarter of an inch. i was planning on putting them in my 55 gallon aquarium with some fast moving tetras and other community fish that were fast moving and didnt have long fins. but now im worried if i put them in the other fish might eat them so i got one of those breeder tanks that float in the water but i was wondering how long can i keep them in there. the breeder holds about half a gallon of water maybe a little less but they have plenty of room, would this be ok till they got big enough to go into the tank. i no there supposed to have five gallons each but this would only be temporary

Is there any water exchange? Slits? Holes?

I think you should just get another tank.
"I will give you a talisman. Whenever you are in doubt, or when the self becomes too much with you, apply the following test. Recall the face of the poorest and the weakest man whom you may have seen, and ask yourself, if the step you contemplate is going to be of any use to him or her. Will she gain anything by it? Will it restore her to a control over her own life and destiny? In other words, will it lead to freedom for the hungry and spiritually starving millions? Then you will find your doubts and your self melt away."

You should be able to pick up a ten gallon pretty cheap off of craigslist, that would be better than keeping them in a small breeder. Just make sure the new tank is properly cycled, there is plenty of info in the library. DP's require a min of 5 gals each.

also make sure you clean any used tanks well and puffers appreciate nice tank scapes to keep them entertained. Hope everything works out!

yeah the breeder has slits on both sides and some in the top so it gets good water exchange but i do have a ten gallon tank but right now i have saltwater in it and im keeping my sick starfish in there for a little while so it would probably be about three weeks before i could get it all swapped then it would have to cycle and everything

how about a tank divider in the 55 gallon?
they could have quite a bit more room, which is always a benefit.

You can make them from plastic craft canvas and poster reinforcers.
