Northern Puffer

My friend caught one on a fishing trip and his other friend killed it for no reason(cry cry) and he said its a peach color with black spots, me know what a fugu looks like( bright orange with green, thinks its different. Any help?

The Northern puffer (Sphoeroides maculatus) does not look like a fugu. It looks like this: http://filaman.ifm-geomar.de/Photos/Pic ... at=species . Good luck if you should decide to educate you friend's friend to not kill for no reason.

Oh ok, thanks. Well I don't even know my friends friend. No one should kill any fish for no reason or for a stupid reason.

Bad advice. The Northern puffer is reportedly non-toxic and even marketed fresh. If you've ever eaten "sea squab", this was this very puffer species. This is long known and was confirmed by a recent study from 2008 when neither Saxitoxin, nor Tetrodotoxin were found in Northern puffers.

Sphoeroides maculatus (Northern puffer) is not toxic.
