Hey jrchkn why don't you put your Ceylon in the 55 gallon I'm sure he would love the room. In my opinion a 55 gallon is not big enough for a 8" fahaka, never mind that you are going to have to up grade that to 120 gl. very soon down the road. To answer your question and I think most fahaka owner will agree they don't tolerate many if any tank mates at all.

Ah. Well I love tupac but I do not want to have to run the 55 full marine. Not this one atleast. I was thinking fahaka with a planted decor would look perfect. Any other suggestions?

Take a look through this link for some idea's for freshwater 55 gallon.

Honestly fahaka do grow really quick and at 8" now he/she really is to big for that 55gallon.

Keep him by himself unless you have a much bigger tank. But really its to small.

I wouldn't even bother setting it up, at 8" he's already too big for a 55 gallon tank and should be into a 100+ by now.

And certainly no tankmates until you can get him into 130+ gallons.. its not physical size that we're talking about here, its waste production, pollution, hormone buildup and general ill health that come with overcrowding a tank.

Fair enough. Even if I were to use the 2 150 filters and a fluval 404?

Looks like thiss 55 will be a planted jardini tank

Okay, let me put it this way.

If you used your toilet, and ran both of those filters on it for a couple of hours, would you then be willing and happy to drink the toilet water? Without flushing?

I can not stress this enough. Filters do not remove waste. They gather it into one place so the water looks clean, and provide current. Pollutants, wastes, feces, decaying food, hormones, etc do not magically go away because you run a filter or two.

This! This! A thousand times, THIS!
"I will give you a talisman. Whenever you are in doubt, or when the self becomes too much with you, apply the following test. Recall the face of the poorest and the weakest man whom you may have seen, and ask yourself, if the step you contemplate is going to be of any use to him or her. Will she gain anything by it? Will it restore her to a control over her own life and destiny? In other words, will it lead to freedom for the hungry and spiritually starving millions? Then you will find your doubts and your self melt away."

got mine in a 55g tank, first got him a few months ago and he was around 4 inches now he is pretty much double his size and there is a new 135g(6'x19"Hx24"w) tank waiting right beside him, just gotta wait couple more days for the new silicone to seal. I have been feeling like crap for awhile for not having him in a bigger tank and am very thankful for having one finally. Mine is smaller than your 8 incher and I feel he has way outgrown his 55g. As for tankmates some of the vids you have seen I bet are pufferpunks and her tank is an exception to the norm, they just don't like other fish. Ya some of the other vids you have looked at may have other fish but I wonder how long or how much longer they will be alive. If you don't have the Fahaka yet I would strongly advise not getting it unless you have a bigger tank coming ASAP. I wouldn't even bother putting it in the 55 at all.

Two months? They would last two seconds with my fahaka (if they were lucky)
