Help me Decide on a Puffer!

Post by Brent »

I've found a very small, hidden away shop in central St. John's earlier today-- they can order pretty much ANY puffer I want! It has to be freshwater for me though: My parent's won't lend me the extra money for a SW tank.

Anyways, what do you think I should order? It would be for a 25g tank. It is not planted yet and the substrate could be changed, so I am very versatile.

If you think you can at least to brackish, your options open up greatly. You could get 2 Figure 8s in your 25. Brackish just involves adding marine salt, and having a hydrometer to measure it. If you can come up with a few extra dollars, you could do that. Or, maybe, a Ceylon. If you definitely can't do the salt and hydrometer, you could have 5-7 dwarf puffers in fresh. The ratio of males to females should be 1 male to 3 females.

Ceylons require a 40g tank.

I'd start with dwarf puffers then see where that takes you.

Honestly, I think freshwater is my best bet...

And, even though I've been doing so much research on DP's, it seems as though everyone starts with them: I'd like maybe an Abei, or a Lorteti, but really any puffer will suite me perfectly.

I also do not have a puffer just yet. I am still starting with my tank, so I don't want to jump in just yet. But I do want to have some in the future. Good luck, mate!

Pufferfreak, there's nothing there!

Oooh!! A lorteti! You should! They're beautiful! Or any other species of red eye would be your best bet.

What about a lurker like the Congo? I think they are cool because of their behaviors.

I'm learning that puffer fish are like pringles. There is no such thing as only wanting one.

Tanks:
38 gallon: 1 Figure 8 puffer, 1 Dragon Goby, 1 Knight Goby, 3 Black Mollies
30 gallon: 1 Blue Acara, 1 Bristlenose Pleco

Not at all! SAPs vs. fahakas vs. Congos vs. irrubescos vs. suvattis vs. DPs - they're not at all alike!
"I will give you a talisman. Whenever you are in doubt, or when the self becomes too much with you, apply the following test. Recall the face of the poorest and the weakest man whom you may have seen, and ask yourself, if the step you contemplate is going to be of any use to him or her. Will she gain anything by it? Will it restore her to a control over her own life and destiny? In other words, will it lead to freedom for the hungry and spiritually starving millions? Then you will find your doubts and your self melt away."

All of them are the same color except for the occasional red congo and i will give it to you that fahakas look different.
