dragon goby

hello

i have a 30g brackish water tank that will have one f8 puffer and 3-4 lyretail mollies and a few ghost shrimp to clean up extra food(and get eaten if the puffer want them)

i was thinking about also getting some bbg(4-6) or getting a dragon goby

i just wasnt sure if this would be big enough for the dragon goby b/c i dont have any bigger tanks to switch to

if it will be to small i will just go with the bbg but i think the dragons gobies are cute and would like one if i have the space

IMO, he should be fine in there. Be sure to read the article on them in our Library. They can be tricky to feed.

You are going to get a lot of different responses to this one. It's all a matter of opinion really. Me personally, I think it would be fine. I keep a dragon goby in a 38 and he is doing well. You can see the stock list in my sig. Now if you go with the dragon goby then no bbgs please. I'd say your tank would be adequately stocked with the f8, lyretail mollies, and dragon goby.

i have heard different things about the amount of space they need so that was why i wasnt sure

and yes i was going with either the dragon goby or the bbg not both

I've got a species tank of Dragon Gobies and I am one of the differing opinions on the required tank size. I feel they need at least a 50 gallon to thrive. My reasoning behind it is the length they can attain not the load on the tank, I currently have one that is close to 15 inches (possibly longer) and two others that are in the 10 inch area.

I had one in a 30 gallong long with one F8 and unfortunately, he died fairly quickly. He was very cool, though! If I get another one one day, I will be sure to have a much bigger tank. So far, this 30 gallon and a 5 gallon hex are enough work for me right now.

i actually already got him before reading your post dadof4
if i notice problems i will just get a bigger tank i have room for one (it would go where the 30g is now) i just dont have one lol and dont perticularly want to set one up- my parents complain about all the water i use now lol

but oh well they will have to deal lol

he seems to be doing great so far, he ate the first day i got him and he swims all over the place he is very active and definatly seems to be enjoying the brackish water

One other thing to keep in mind is that Dragon Gobies like a higher SG than F8's and have been found in ocean coastal areas. They will eventually need the SG increase as they age.
