Whats your puffers personality?

Post by 2jane »

We all know pufferfish are famous (or infamous, perhaps?) for their varying personalities. Even though I've had my two (RIP the 3rd one :( ) for only a few weeks, I can definitely see differences between the two.
The paler one is very shy and inquisitive. Whenever I rearrange something in the tank, it's her job to take a few laps around the tank and stare at everything (to make a mental map, maybe?). Shes the one currently fascinated by the heater. She also prefers getting her food directly out of the little worm-cone feeder thing, which I tilt to the side so some bloodworms fly around the tank while others stay inside.

The more yellow of the two is pretty aggressive! She's the one who enjoys chasing the bloodworms around the tank. She also likes following my pencil eraser when I hold it up to the tank... she'll come running over to follow it! The other one will sit back and stare from afar, still paying attention though not as engaged.

If I hold my face up to the tank, they both like to come and greet me.
They also like to glass-pace in a certain spot near me when I'm studying... I think they're jealous of my calculus work because I'm paying too much attention to it!

What about your puffers?
Goodbye Chekov! I'm sure you will be happy in your new home.

Im a very light sleeper and my congo puffer is in my bedroom, she likes to grind her teeth (thats what it sounds like) to wake me up when shes hungry  shes been doing this for a few days now, after shes been fed she will bury herself and looks to me shes eyeballing me as to tell me i can go back to sleep now :? ..she seriously has me wrapped round her fins..but because she is cute and she makes me laugh i dont really mind.

Oh and when she yawns its rather funny, ive read that congos dont like currents but mine she loves swimming in it,like its her gym!
I have 2 water water pugs that own me!!

It sounds like "she" is a "he." Check out the article on sexing DPs in the Library.
"I will give you a talisman. Whenever you are in doubt, or when the self becomes too much with you, apply the following test. Recall the face of the poorest and the weakest man whom you may have seen, and ask yourself, if the step you contemplate is going to be of any use to him or her. Will she gain anything by it? Will it restore her to a control over her own life and destiny? In other words, will it lead to freedom for the hungry and spiritually starving millions? Then you will find your doubts and your self melt away."

Bug's pretty outgoing. Bullet will have a nice, consistant, sheltered sleeping spot while she's sleep in the middle of nowhere. She's the one first the the glass, and first to take food. Bullet's kinda shy, and docile. I love how neither of mine are aggresive to each other. :)

Pazuzu is very active, day or night. He usually hangs out up towards the top of the tank when I am around, and will follow me around the tank. I am sitting at my desk right now and he is on the side of the tank closest to me. If I move to the other end of the tank he will move to that end. He has a cave formed by some large rocks and a piece of slate, which he will pass through from time to time but he has never been much for hiding out.

When it is feeding time he will jump up out of the water a little bit trying to get it before I can even drop it in.

Juliet is a little punkette. she's very aggressive towards Romeo, and it always far more active, constantly hunting and always the first one at the dropper for blood worms. Romeo used to be the social one, always greeting me at the glass and pacing when ever i was near to see what i was doing. ever since Juliet started attacking him he's been very shy and skittish, spending all his time at the top of the tank watching me but not pacing, more just hovering. Ra, my figure eight, is very very sociable. he's shy around new people but always comes to greet me and constantly paces the glass near where ever i happen to be sitting to watch me. he also likes to come up and rub himself against my finger if it stick it in the tank, much like a cat. he's my lil buddy, i'm so glad i convinced my RA to let me have two tanks up here. :D

Geroge used to be sweet but now he's an agressive little beastie! :-(

Hopefully he gets his hormones under control and reverts to being the lovely little puffer he was.
