100 micron cloth

Post by Arothron Junkie »

100 micron cloth that is about 1/4" thick. Can't find the stuff online yet but the LFS where the girlfriend works has this cloth that is about $10 for approx a square yard. Its a white cloth like fabric that rinses in a couple seconds and traps *everything*. For example: we just added a bag of aragonite substrate (remodeling a tank) and even after the usual pre-rinse it still dusted the tank pretty badly. We supplemented the usual filter with the 100 micron cloth and it pulled the dust out in just a couple minutes.

Just cut a piece to fit as a drop in for your filter and you can watch it catch crud/turn colors. If you have just done a tank cleaning/scrub putting these in will have the tank back to crystal clear in a couple minutes. Once they clog (doesn't take long, minutes sometimes, if your tank is nasty) just pull and rinse and you are good to go. Totally re-usable.

The stuff is dirt cheap and works great. I have not seen much said about it elsewhere so I thought I'd post it here. If I can find an online source I'll post it. Anyone local to Atlanta, "Fish Store and More" should have some in stock.

Hope this helps...

Good call.
Big Al's sells 100, 50 and 1 micron cloths in North America, available online as well. Under "media", search by Category, "mechanical".
