It is normally hard to resist him in begging mode but right now he's making it easy by being incredibly grumpy all the time.
Anytime we go near the tank he charges the glass and hits it hard enough that we hear his teeth clack on the glass. So, we're leaving him alone and hoping he sorts himself out... maybe it's a case of hormones but we don't know why he's suddenly so aggressive.
He seems to like being 'ignored' as he's been playing in the bubbles again so at least he's happy doing his own thing.
I'm really stumped as to why George is behaving like this. My Abei, Hymie, is very easy going and what I would consider to be somewhat shy. He likes to hide alot in the plants, and only comes over to the front of the glass when it's meal time. I never have to worry about getting bitten by him, because as soon as my hands go into the tank, he goes to the other end of the tank!
Strange that George was so sweet and now is getting grumpy, but it could also be that he's reaching his sexual maturity, that turns many animals to be aggressive and rather nasty -- so maybe this is the case with George. Whatever it is, I hope he returns to being sweet and kind again, as I know it's got to be difficult dealing with an aggressive puffer. I don't think any of mine are that way ... although I'm sure some of them would bite me if I left my hand in the water too long, but they don't "go after me".

i was thinking the sexual maturity thing too. males of almost any species of animal become very agressive once they reach sexual maturity. maybe you have a young male trying to prove him. either way i hope he mellows out again. best of luck.

My poor puffs are begging constantly. The blackworms I just got all died on me, and now I have to harvest from my unestablished worm culture, and the frog needs worms every day, so they've been getting fed every three days for the last week and a half. I'm making a pet store trip this weekend. *sigh*

Well... his diet's not going so well... Rich forgot and gave him a squid ring yesterday and one of the crabs went to the river beyond during the night (after excaping and wandering through the house into the kitchen before being found and returned to the tank) so George had a crunchy treat this morning and will have to beg in vain until sunday.
Hopefully he mellows soon as I miss the friendly George
Tried to do the smaller portions thing but found the other half sneaking treats when I was at work (he works from home)...
So now it's set days for feeding. He generally comes out to beg a bit and then gets mad and charges at us and then goes and sulks. When he comes and begs for a while I know he's actually hungry and then I'll normally give in and give him something... which is roughly every two days.
Oh no lol poor George. Maybe he's upset just because he isn't getting his way. I bet if you give him a little more time he'll come around.
I lolz at your other half My step-dad used to do the same thing with the cat. The cat would beg for water out of the sink and my mom decided that it had to stop. She did good but I came home early one day and caught him with the cat on the counter and just turning the water on lmao Both that cat and that man jumped three feet in the air when i walked around the corner. They thought it was my mom catching them in the act.

Well, he went without for a day and a half and then got a whole prawn yesterday... I haven't seen him eat that quickly in AGES (which really makes me wonder how many 'snacks' he was getting from the other half).
I thought he looked fat before... I couldn't get a pic of him after the feeding but he was HUGE!!!! I'll try and get pics tomorrow night when I feed him again.
Oh, the cheeky beastie bit me again - my hand got too close to the net keeping him in the terracotta cave and he managed to nip me through the net
I had to move the plants around in his tank so that there's almost no glass showing on the back and side that's against the wall (it's in a corner) because he kept attacking his reflection.
