Can brackish puffers that are sold fully acclimated to freshwater be able to live in freshwater conditions for possibly life or will they die if they aren't switched to brackish as adults?
I know there are some fish even cichlids that can survive the opposite extreme in water chemistry (I've heard of cichlids being acclimated to marine conditions or groupers living in freshwater conditions) but I am not sure how it is with puffers.
I know with Mollies for example if they aren't in brackish conditions but full freshwater they can live (and breed too I think) but are very susceptible to illness like Ich, etc.
GSP and F8s are very easy for me to get a hold of but I don't want to commit to having to premix brackish water in a barrel/drum for one fish so if they can't live (with great filtration and water quality) in freshwater I'd rather not keep them.
Let me know. I can easily add like 1cup of evaporated sea salt (Sodium chloride) per twenty gallons but I am not comfortable beyond that as I am only familiar with freshwater biological cycles not brackish or marine.

Any fish forced into conditions not the best for them will have cronic problems with their immune systems, causing disease & early death/shorter lifespans.

If you don't understand BW/SW cycling. don't get them (at least, not yet). If you don't want to commit to mixing water, definitely don't get them. Thanks. I just wanted to be sure that even with great water conditions that they can't live in freshwater for long.

Oh, they can live for a while. They won't live as long as they could, and they won't grow to their full size, and they'll be more susceptible to diseases.
