He came!!!!!

Post by qtrhorse89 »

My new baby fahaka came in the mail today!!!!!! Funny I never thought I'd say a fish came though the mail. His tank has been cycled since monday and I kept feeding it to keep the bacteria alive until he got here. I named him Ratchet! He's so tiny, smaller than my figure 8 puffer but I imagine he will grow. He's in his 120gallon, I'm so worried about losing him, he's hard to find. Once he settles in I'll take some pictures for you guys. Right now I don't want to stress him out since he just got here and all.

He seems to be. I tried to offer him a mysis shrimp but he wasn't all that interested. I'm not all that worried. I suppose it's normal for them to not want to eat the first day in the tank.

Oh, I imagine he'll grow, too. Fahakas grow an inch a month when they're young.

Pictures?
"I will give you a talisman. Whenever you are in doubt, or when the self becomes too much with you, apply the following test. Recall the face of the poorest and the weakest man whom you may have seen, and ask yourself, if the step you contemplate is going to be of any use to him or her. Will she gain anything by it? Will it restore her to a control over her own life and destiny? In other words, will it lead to freedom for the hungry and spiritually starving millions? Then you will find your doubts and your self melt away."

Thanks everybody. I'll upload some pics tomorrow. I think he's resting right now. I'm going to the asian market tomorrow to buy him and the figure 8 lots of tasty things to eat. They sell like tiny clams and I was wondering if I get some and then crack it open with a hammer would that be all right for him to eat? Not the whole thing mind you, I'd just give him a chunk of it. He seems to be a little on the skinny side so I thought I'd just dispense with blood worms and what not and get him some actual meat. I'm pretty sure it's where he was fasted before shipping, a few good meals and he will be set right.

And yes he is loving his big tank. I'm obsessive compulsive about him though. I go check on him a lot and he's hard to find when you're trying to stay back away from the tank to not spook him lol.

Well you guys will have to wait a bit on the photos. This light isn't right in the apartment right now and he doesn't seem to be in the mood. He's been laying in the same corner all day long. I suppose he's mopey because it's a new tank and all. I tried blood worms this morning with him hoping he might be interested in eating now but that was a no go as was a small piece of market shrimp. I just worry because he's so little and frail. The seller said he hadn't been fed since last saturday because of shipping. How long can they go with out food?

I tested his water just to be safe and it's still 0 ammonia and nitrite and like 10 nitrate. So I know it's not his tank water, and he's not breathing hard. He's just sitting in his corner staring at the glass. I'm just going to let him be for the rest of the day. I left the tiny piece of shrimp lying right beside him so maybe he'll get hungry and decide to eat it in a few hours, if not i'll remove it.

Congrats!

He probably is wondering how he got to this place after being in that place after being in that place, etc. I bet after a while he goes exploring. Meanwhile, could you place lots of live snails around the tank for him to find and eat?

He ate!!!! :D It took a chunk of clam on the shell to get his interest. He finally has a nice bulging belly and he's zipping all over his tank. I think he's finally starting to settle in.

Mrgreen I threw some snails in there before he came and i've been finding empty snail shells so I know he was eating something here or there but he never lost that caved in look in his stomach which is why I was thinking he wasn't eating enough. He might need to be treated for IPs but I want him to settle in and start accepting food readily before even thinking about that.

I finally got some semi decent pics of him so I'll post them later tonight.
