Some questions on my setup. GSP

You'll need a hydrometer to be sure & then don't raise the SG more than .002/week, so you don't mess with the biological filtration.

As far as feeding--I can't do better than all the feeding articles available to you in our Library. Be sure to check out the one on GSPs too. I believe that's what you are keeping?

Yup I have a hydrometer. That is about what I raised it over fresh water. Thank you for the number and time. I really needed that info so I can get them to brackish the quickest while still staying safe.

This one turns on and off just when I get the temp I want i turn it a tiny bit down but it doesnt come back on and maintain temperature when the water temperature falls.

Is it definitely installed correctly? Placed diagonally, ish, near fast water flow? Where are you reading the temperature from in relation to the heater?

I put it right in front of the whisper filter (the kind that sits on the rims and pushes water out) so that the heated water is distributed throughout the tank.
I am reading temp at the middle of the tank and at the far side of the tank away from the heater.

Yup, it was a bad heater, or more accurately bad thermostat.
I put in two smaller 75 heaters i had, one at the end of each tank and once set they have maintained 79 degrees for two days in a row .

I know I should just get one bigger one but from having many hobbies I have noticed that sometimes it is better to wait, become educated, and then buy what you NEED, instead of just buying things and learning they are not the right type of having to upgrade them again later.

My goal is that if the puffers are doing well in six months, then I will buy a 100 gallon aquarium and the appropriate materials for that setup.

Good news the water still tests as zero on all contaminents and the fish look super vivid and bright .

Time to start raising the s.g slowly.
