Re: GPS puffing up
Sure, they puff.
"I will give you a talisman. Whenever you are in doubt, or when the self becomes too much with you, apply the following test. Recall the face of the poorest and the weakest man whom you may have seen, and ask yourself, if the step you contemplate is going to be of any use to him or her. Will she gain anything by it? Will it restore her to a control over her own life and destiny? In other words, will it lead to freedom for the hungry and spiritually starving millions? Then you will find your doubts and your self melt away."

Re: GPS puffing up
I have seen my gsp puff up. Not under good conditions either. I had a crayfish in with him at that point in time. I had emptied a lot of water from the tank, and the crayfish caught him. He puffed up, and got away. Not one of my happier moments, but...I did see him puff up and live up to the puffer name. The crayfish, or blue lobster...whatever you want to call it...is long gone.

Re: GPS puffing up
i've seen one puffed up.
my other puffer was having a little chase play/fight with him then he turned around and puffed.
they were both ok tho, still white belly after the puff.
i guess they could be playing while practicing their "puffing" technique

Re: GSP puffing up
I had mine puff by total accident, I was cleaning my tank with my python. And next thing I know one of mine were going up the tube. I pulled the tube out of the water, he went back in and puffed up for just a minute then everything was back to normal.

Re: GPS puffing up
I saw Bolla semipuff a long time ago. I was transferring her to a new tank, and she got stuck in the plastic bag when I released her. She wasn't too happy about being stuck in a plastic bag with no water.
Luckily nothing bad happened, even though she puffed on air.

Re: GPS puffing up
Most puffers won't puff up or will only rarely puff up. This is a defense mechanism, so if they are happy, they won't likely puff. However, some seem to puff just for practice or fun or something. If you get a puffer or want to get a puffer just to see them puff up, you are probably going to be disappointed.
Any pufferfish has the potential to puff, though. That said, I've had my figure 8 puffer for about 1-1/2 years and never once saw him puff even a little. And that includes my nearly scaring him to death with the flash of my camera when I first got him, and then my hubby chasing him around the tank when I wasn't looking.

Re: GPS puffing up
My puffer semi-puffs at it's reflection every once in a while... not sure if it's admiring itself, partially puffing to be able to see that bit on it's side/belly or thinking it's a rival and doing it to show dominance... but it's funny to watch as it kind of mini puffs a few times like he's building up to the larger semi-puff.

Re: GPS puffing up
Little round bellies after eating is normal. As long as your puff doesn't look it's going to explode into a million little puffer bits I wouldn't be worried.
