Live Blackworms for Dwarf Puffers

I'm keeping some dwarf puffers and I feed them hikari frozen bloodworms but they don't really seem to go at it much. A long while back I use to buy blackworms (also called live bloodworms when I go to the fish store and ask for them) to my betta. They are alive and I think they'll help stimulate the puffers into eating more.


However, my question is, is it okay? A lot of people go for frozen froods because they want to avoid parasites and other problems in feeding live foods. I've fed my bettas live blackworms before without problems, can I do that with the dwarf puffers?

I'm setting up a snail tank but don't have them ready atm.

I feed my discus fish live black worms for 2years, with no problems. Sounds like your source for black worms are fine. I am trying to breed feeding snails aswell. what kind are you trying to breed?

Bloodworms and blackworms are two different things. Either one is fine, though. It's possible that they could be carrying bacteria or something, but it's not very likely. I've been feeding live blackworms for the past four months, and I haven't noticed anything yet...

I feed my discus fish live black worms for 2years, with no problems. Sounds like your source for black worms are fine. I am trying to breed feeding snails aswell. what kind are you trying to breed?

I'm breeding ramshorns. I hear your typical pond snails are better because they also have a thinner, weaker shell for the little dwarfs but I'm guessing the ramshorns won't be much of a problem either. I dunno, which snails should I breed for puffers?

Oh yeah, any thoughts about live brine shrimps?

My puffer loved ramshorns. Except sometimes i had to break the shell a little. Eeep. I hated doing that so i just fed smaller ones.

Rinse them well in a brine shrimp net & throw out all dead parts. I soak in fish vitamins & flakes for food & store in the fridge with a little water to keep them wet..

Yeah, hear pond snails are better eats for puffers and reproduce much quicker. Problem for me is all local fish shops don't have any

Look on their live plants--that's where you'll find them as hitchikers.
