I'm hoping someone can suggest a good IP medication that I can get here in the UK. I already have the WormerPlus one, but I was hoping to find the kind that you soak the puffer's food in, as I was hoping that might work a bit better than the WormerPlus. I just keep seeing signs of IP's with my 2 puffers that seem to be continually afflicted. They don't look bad, they both have good appetites, the only sign is that white stringy pearly poop. And it worries me that I can't seem to get rid of it totally. They seem to get better, their poop nearly goes back to normal, and then one of them will show the stringy white poop and it's sort of back to the start again. The reason both of them are affected is because they share a tank that has a divider in it, but it's one of those with the holes so that water can go back and forth, and unfortunately, IP's too!
Can anyone offer a suggestion?

Since this board has been up, we have found there are several questions that routinely get asked in order to help diagnose problems. If you can have that information to begin with in your post, we'll be able to help right away (if we can!) without having to wait for you to post the info we need.
1) Your water parameters - pH, Ammonia, Nitrite, Nitrates and salinity (if appropriate). This is by far the most important information you can provide! Do not answer this with "Fine" "Perfect" "ok", that tells us nothing. We need hard numbers.
2) Tank size and a list of ALL inhabitants. Include algae eaters, plecos, everything. We need to know what you have and how big the tank is.
3) Feeding, water change schedule and a list of all products you are using or have added to the tank (examples: Cycle, Amquel, salt, etc)
4) What changes you've made in the tank in the last week or so. Sometimes its the little things that make all the difference.
5) How long the aquarium has been set up, and how did you cycle it? If you don't know what cycling is read this: Fishless Cycling Article and familiarize yourself with all the information. Yes. All of it.
We want to help, and providing this information will go a LONG way to getting a diagnosis and hopeful cure that much faster.
While you wait for assistance:
One of the easiest and best ways to help your fish feel better is clean water! If you are already on a regular water change schedule (50% weekly is recommended) a good step to making your fish more comfortable while waiting for diagnosis/suggestions is to do a large water change immediately. Feel free to repeat daily or as often as you can, clean water is always a good thing! Use of Amquel or Prime as a dechlor may help with any ammonia or nitrite issues, and is highly recommended.
Note - if you do not normally do large water changes, doing a sudden, large water change could shock your fish by suddenly changing their established water chemistry. Clean water is still your first goal, so in this case, do several smaller (10%) water changes over the next day or two before starting any large ones.

Not necessarily. Example: Chocolate is safe for most humans, but not for dogs.Walrus Head wrote:If its safe for humans has to be safe for fish!

Then you will find your doubts and your self melt away."

Well so far, it's not looking good. I think you have many more choices of things like IP medication in America because I can't seem to find any information about a wormer that you can soak the puffer's food in, and the only one that's really available is the same one I already have. I am a little disappointed.

Re: Internal Parasite Medication in the UK
Nice thought, but I may be looking in the wrong area.
I've had a chat with Dr Neale Monks this weekend, and he's given me some insight. The white stringy poop isn't indicative of IP's at all, it's more consistent with constipation, and that would make sense actually.
So I shouldn't need any IP medication, just adjusting my puffer's diet SHOULD do the trick. I will let you all know what happens. I'm going to get some peas tomorrow, as I don't have any here tonight. But constipation does seem more likely now that I've read Dr Monks' article.
And I'm happy it's not as serious as worms because I've wormed my poor puffers about 3 times in the past 4 months, and all for nought.

Yeah I'm really happy because I was worried for these guys and now I know they aren't as bad as I thought they were. So that's VERY good news. Actually a couple of good things happened this weekend.
