I talked to Pisces about it. I gave them the latin name, common name, and description. I also talked to Big Al's, but they told me there was no such thing as a pustulatus, then again, they also thought that a fahaka was a lurker, similar to a suvattii
I should really go to Riverfront and talk to Wayne. He seems to order in a lot more exotics than anywhere else combined. Never been to Gold's, but I hear the same about them as well. I have not devoted a lot of energy into looking for a pustulatus though, as its the season to spend money, and I really can't afford to get housing for a 15"+ puffer. My 90g is free, but would still be too small for his permanent home. But if I were lucky enough to acquire one, I most certainly would snap it up in a heartbeat
I might fly there and steal it from you though! I've been saving a second 125 for one, if I ever find one. I refuse to put anything else in there, because the day I do, I'll find one! lol.
Some fish I have a very hard time returning, others it is no problem. I have a thing for a few setups which I seem to have to have every decade or so - a midsized tank of tiger barbs and small clown loaches for example - I set it and enjoy it for a year or so, max 2-3 years, then it become boring and goes away. Older puffers, Cichlids, and catfish I cannot trade in - I have a retirement home for a mid-late teens Cichlid, and three tanks with late teen adult Synodontids. Those are here for life, living out their retirement in luxury. They are old friends, as will remain such. I even have a ? >10? feeder goldfish left over from some frogs. He/she has been here so long that I am stuck with it, so a 33XL tank and a 15 veggie filter is final home - for however long.
Who can call themselves a fish lover if they are prepared to get rid of a fish. LFS's encourage it by offering credit. I don't - if you dont want the fish, you dont get any money for it. If I lived in America I could buy fish that grow to stupid sizes and when you can't house them who cares?

Unfortunately all the large predatory fish forums I look at are full of fools who don't care about their fish. All they want to do is feed little fish to their big fish until they get too big. When they do, "I'll just trade it in against the cost of a new Red Tail Cat"

Once again, the four toothed fish has got me addicted.
Well, I do trade off fish such as tiger barbs and their tankmate loaches - but the former still have several good years in them, and the latter have decades. But I am not ready/willing to give big tank to a trio of loaches which will outlive me and will not coexist with decent planting.
I think it's ok to trade in fish to someone who will give them the proper home they deserve. But there's certain fish that I get more attached to (like puffers and my polypterus) that I could never trade in.
Unfortunately I did have to trade in my gar since he was getting too big for my 55. But luckily he found someone to give him a new home in a 210. I'm happy for him, though he'll be missed. In my defense, however, I bought him as an Amazon Gar that was supposed to only get 14" in length. After a bit of research I realized I had been duped and it was a longnose, which gets considerably bigger. Had I known, I would have never gotten it.
I totally agree with you George. The majority of these people who keep these predatory fish don't really care for the fish, they just want to see blood shed. People with piranhas are the worst. The buy a red belly expecting it to be a fearsome predator and when it turns out to be a rather shy fish they are dissapointed and let it go or return it. These kinds of problems/stress could be avoided if people would simply research the pet they want beforehand. I have major problems with buying fish on impulse. I'm the kind of person that reads for weeks before deciding if the fish is right for me and if I can keep it properly. If not then I do without/wait until I can afford it.
Toadman, buying a fish that's mislabeled is a different story ^_^. In this case it's the LFS's fault and not yours at all.

I have no probs with moving fish to good homes - what gets me is that these people get a kick out of watching a feeder fish being killed rather than obtaining enjoyment from maintaining a fish properly. Some of the videos I have found were disgusting.

I don't think anyone here was insulted. And I definitely think you have a very valid point. I don't know how many people I see or talk to that just wanna watch fish eat other fish. And when I tell people I have boas, all they're interested in is if I feed 'em live food (which I don't!) Amazing how blood thirsty people can be.
I'm also curious where all those huge redtail cats are supposed to go when you bring 'em back to the fish store. Who's gonna come in and say, "gee that would be perfect for my 900g tank that's been sitting there empty."
I wasn't offended George!! I totally agree with you. I was talking about how hard it is to let a fish go, let alone buying one just to torture other fish.
I am against feeding live food to another animal with the hope and intent of seeing blood, gore and carnage. That is immature and unnecessary IMHO.
I am not, however, against feeding live foods if they are appropriate to the animal being fed and of the same (or similar) variety to the foods that the animal would eat in the wild. This may not make me popular with PETA, but I won't lose much sleep over that.
