Dragon Goby swimming in sprials??

Since this board has been up, we have found there are several questions that routinely get asked in order to help diagnose problems. If you can have that information to begin with in your post, we'll be able to help right away (if we can!) without having to wait for you to post the info we need.
1) Your water parameters - pH, Ammonia, Nitrite, Nitrates and salinity (if appropriate). This is by far the most important information you can provide! Do not answer this with "Fine" "Perfect" "ok", that tells us nothing. We need hard numbers.
2) Tank size and a list of ALL inhabitants. Include algae eaters, plecos, everything. We need to know what you have and how big the tank is.
3) Feeding, water change schedule and a list of all products you are using or have added to the tank (examples: Cycle, Amquel, salt, etc)
4) What changes you've made in the tank in the last week or so. Sometimes its the little things that make all the difference.
5) How long the aquarium has been set up, and how did you cycle it? If you don't know what cycling is read this: Fishless Cycling Article and familiarize yourself with all the information. Yes. All of it.
We want to help, and providing this information will go a LONG way to getting a diagnosis and hopeful cure that much faster.
While you wait for assistance:
One of the easiest and best ways to help your fish feel better is clean water! If you are already on a regular water change schedule (50% weekly is recommended) a good step to making your fish more comfortable while waiting for diagnosis/suggestions is to do a large water change immediately. Feel free to repeat daily or as often as you can, clean water is always a good thing! Use of Amquel or Prime as a dechlor may help with any ammonia or nitrite issues, and is highly recommended.
Note - if you do not normally do large water changes, doing a sudden, large water change could shock your fish by suddenly changing their established water chemistry. Clean water is still your first goal, so in this case, do several smaller (10%) water changes over the next day or two before starting any large ones.

I picked him up to examine him. (Gently in my hand and still underwater.) I can't see anything physically wrong with him. Not a thing! I moved him back a bit and he swam away bt still in spirals! He isn't missing any fins that I can see that would make him do that.

Yeah, but they're from my tank. They breed. I hope he doesn't have a parasite. My puffers eat the worms. Never seen the DG eat any.

and about six feeder guppies who aren't being eaten. ~ quote from mrgreen
I'm just curious, who's supposed to be eating the guppies? I didn't think Dragon Gobies went for guppies, and I hope you don't expect the F8's to eat them! I will admit that I don't know very much about Dragon Gobies, so I may be wrong about them not eating guppies, but I didn't think they did.

He's Dead
He's dead. I got some tablets that seemt o do the same thing as melafix. This was before I knew he was dead. The lfs said it sounded like he has an infection inside. I started to set up my feeder tank as a hospital tank, but when I picked up the goby he was dead. So now I need to know what to do to my tank with the F8s. Should I get Melafix and treat just in case? I have Pimafix here, too.

Oh, I'm so sorry to hear about your loss! That's awful! I'd add some Melafix, can't hurt.

Re: Dragon Goby swimming in sprials??
I'm not certain I'd use the Myacin, but like I said, the Melafix can't hurt, it's all natural and I've never had any bad results with it.

I guess I'm off to get the Melafix. I'd like another dragon goby, but not sure when or if I should get one.

Re: Dragon Goby swimming in sprials??
My husband almost talked me into buying a Dragon Goby, but I'm just not sure where we could put it. I don't feel good putting it in any of my brackish tanks, the only one I would think about is my Ceylon's tank, but they (Dragon Gobies) prefer a sandy substrate, don't they? We've got gravel in that tank.

It was Mycin Two.Pufferpunk wrote:Hmmm... never heard of anything like that, what is it?I got some tablets that seemt o do the same thing as melafix.
I returned it and got Melafix and just did my first day's dose. Hopefully all will be fine, now. This is just a preventative for my puffers.
