Hi!
Been reading these forums for a few days and I thought I'd ask a question...
Mbu puffers fascinate me and I'm thinking of setting up an enclosure for one. The main question is, do they get along with their own kind? I'd like a pair if possible, male and female. I'm thinking a 4 - 5K gallon tank with lots of features.
Any idea if this is possible?
Thanks!

I know that it has been done, but as with all puffer co-housing, it is unpredictable. If you start them as real fry (1-2") I believe that you will have a much improved chance. If you have to fill your stock over time, it will be far more difficult.
You have to play the odds on gender, with the assumption that the fish have equal distribution of sexes (not always the case, and unknown on puffers SFAIK). I normally start with a minimum of 6 to be fairly well assured that I will have at least one pair.
Good luck and keep up posted on your plans and the setup.

Thanks for the info!
I'm looking to buy a house in the next two or three years so I can install some large enclosures. I have a guy designing me a 3000g 25 foot long bala shark enclosure and I want at least two other large tanks for catfish and hopefully puffers.
I'm going to get a website made up that details everything with plans if I can do it. I find there's a lack of detailed plans on how to make large systems so I want to be as descriptive as possible.
When I'm ready I'll post the link. I'll definitely be around here in the future to learn more about these specific puffers.
Cheers!

Jumbo tanks are not common, but their are several around. You may want to contact Ashdavid on Aquaria Central - he has a jumbo. There is also someone there with a multi-K Pacu tank (single Pacu), but I am blank on the name at the moment.
