are you sure that picture isn't manipulated somehow? i was told they get to about 20 inches... also i now dont have any of my dwarf puffers left in the tank... im guessing one of the fish ate them.. the goldfish are returned now. so I have a silvertip shark. it wasnt the columbian that i thought and the petstore told me they dont need aquarium salt only the columbian ones need it. and i have f8s which i will setup a new tank for with some salt.

Ummmm....I took the picture.....it's definitely not manipulated. I don't walrus people about stuff like this. You wanna stick a fish that can get up to 3-5 feet in length in the wild (dependent on species) in a 4 foot tank, that's your choice. Even if you put a 20 inch fish in a 75 gallon it would have a hard time turning even around seeing as the tank is only 18 inches deep. That would be like a full grown human living in a 100 sq.ft. room.

This is a pic of the arrowana that is in the Denver aquarium. The sheet of paper by it's head is a standard 8 1/2" x 11" piece of paper and the fish is monstrous.

My public aquarium has their GSPs labeled as T fluviatilis! Anyway, if the OP just does a search for the species he has, he can find out the estimated adult size.

Ya know, even if the fish in the pic is mis-identified, the argument holds true. You don't put a fish in a tank it can't turn around in or become polluted because most filters can't develop enough bacteria to handle that concentrated of a bioload. There is no need to come in here and be insulting and rude.

That fish is not an arowana! It looks like some species of sturgeon to me. Well that's beside the point..

First of all we need to get this species thing straightened out. Basically your choices are (from what species you got) 3-4 goldfish (don't be suprised, fully grown goldfish need 20 gallon each) about 15 dwarf puffers (that would be so cool!) 5 f8's (with marine salt) and maybe acouple columbian sharks. I believe sharks are schooling fish, correct? (Please, someone correct me if I'm correct.) So they may be a problem. Believe me (and alot of other people) that the silver arowanas are out of the question.

Bad DAy.. shark died. i think it needed salt in the water. stupid store told me they didn't. the F8s are fine though and I need to get rid of the arrowana but no one wants to buy it off me. should I give it away? or wait it out? its pretty small now. but it will probably grow bigger later. also i brought my water to test at my lfs and the guy told water change right away atleast 60% and that my ammonia was really high and nitrite as well but nitrate was at a reasonaly level. I guess my filter wasn't cycle aswell. soo crappy. i now have the dp's and the f8s in smaller tanks and the arrowana in the 75 alone

That's a start but is the smaller tank cycled? Otherwise, the puffers will follow the demise of the shark. Died from ammonia/nitrite poisoning.

Like pufferpunk says your puffers are all doomed if it's an uncycled tank. And I really can't see dp's and f8's live together in peace....

ak37_clock, you mentioned that you put your dp's and f8's in smaller tanks. How many dp's did you get? f8's? What size tank are they in? They connot be kept together, f8's need brachish conditions and dp's need pure fw. Dp's need 5 gallons for the first one and 3 for the rest. While f8's need 15 for the first one and 10 for the rest.

Please don't feel we are picking on you--typical newbie mistakes here--listening to the LFS or someone even less experienced than yourself giving bad advice. All good advice here! These are just very concerned about the health & well being of your fish.

I just wanted to say that I can vouch for the size of an Arowana. There was one at an LFS near me, and it was every bit of 3-feet and not fully grown even. They are HUGE fish!
