My Puffers: I have had my first puffer for about 2-3 weeks now and her name is Mrs. Puff, i just bought another puffer about 5 days ago and his name is Mr. Puff. They are awsome fish and they look great!! Mr. Puff is more curious and loves to see me. Mrs. Puff is very shy but im working with her so hopefully she will become more open.

I would not like to see any of my puffers in turmoil, but I'd be interested to hear this "squeaky" noise! :D
Yea i bought this pufferbook by Chris Ralph, i guess hes like a top pufferfish keeper. But I was cleaning my tank one day and put my puffers back in it and one of my puffers made a sqeaky noise like too teeth rubbing together or something and i just read in this book yesterday that they tend to make those noises when inflating, and also when deflating under water i guess in the book he said it sounds like a hissing noise.
Puffers are amazing!! :)

It's called Pufferfish (Practical Fishkeeping) - Chris Ralph

Another good book [so I've been told] is:

Aqualog: The Puffers of Fresh and Brackish Waters - Klaus Ebert

The Aqualog book is excellent, it's like my Puffer Bible!! I think every puffer keeper should have this book, it blows all the others away. I've got the Practical Fishkeeping one and that's very generalised compared to Aqualog. The Aqualog one can be expensive, but it's worth it.

It's $42 on Amazon.com with free shipping.

Apparently Coles bookstore doesn't carry either of the books, so I have to buy it off of the internet. : (

You might end up getting it cheaper buying online than in a store. :)

Not to un-derail this thread, but I was reading this and thinking "hmmm I've never seen my hairy puffer inflate." Then later that day I was siphoning water from the tank... I was talking to my girlfriend and not paying attention to where my baileyi was. Then I got a nice sharp bite! I screamed a couple of obscenities very loudly and left the room to stop the bleeding. As I was walking past the fishroom, I saw that my puffer was inflated! I went in to look at her and she saw me and immediately deflated. Of course I checked params and all that, but I think it may have been biting something that wasn't food and then hearing loud noises.

That wasn't a derailment at all snarferer, it was quite interesting and still on topic as well! :)

Sorry you suffered a bite (and not to laugh at your pain, but I had to laugh when you said she deflated when she seen you looking at her -- for some reason that hit me as funny, sorry). I've not yet been bitten by my Baileyi, however, the suvattii has gotten me twice and so has my Congo, they are sneaky. I end up forgetting about watching them because I'm concentrating on sucking up the food particles and before I know it, they've got me! However, having said that, none of them have broken the skin ..... yet. And I hope that doesn't happen any time soon.
