yeh i returned the porcu which was undernourished, the lionfish as it can sting puffers and kill em and the dogface in exchange for a bigger porcupine and trigger fish and they get on swell. salinity is 1.021, temp 24 C, nitrite is now < 0.3 mg /l, ph is about 8.0 which is a bit low im hoping the live rock ill fix that or ill have to get a buffer. the worms in the live rock have started seeaping out and sqimming around although the trigger fish quickly made a meal of them :/. the LFS Nerds said that worms swimming around = good water quality, addded more biospira to filter today! Im so happy for the first time the fahaka tank has 0 Nitrite !

You don't have enough space for the porc alone, remember, much less with a tankmate.

I think I'm quitting this thread because I don't see a point. It's your choice to do what you wanna do, but I get a little insulted if you asked for advice here and didn't take most of them, and went back to the store that did nothing to discourage you from buying the fish for your tank that was nowhere near adequate for them in the first place, and THEN get a even bigger puffer for I don't even know what reason. Down the road you may have more questions about why the puffer is acting funny a certain way, and then you probably would choose to not listen to what the people are trying to tell you anyway. THAT's the feeling that I get off of it.

I just hope that somehow you will provide care for them soon and adequately. Good luck to your puffer.

You know, I've just sat here and read this thread from start to finish, and I have to say that I don't blame recombinantrider for qutting the thread.

I have never kept any salt water fish of any kind, and I'd like to think I know a thing or two about freshwater puffers, but even I would not jump into the deep end as Walrus Head has done. I truly feel sorry for the puffer he has and I don't understand why you would bother to ask for advice and then basically throw it to the wind and do nothing but get an even bigger puffer to suffer in a tank that's not prepared well enough for even a small fish.

It hurts me to know there are people who basically don't care about the puffers because they want something "cool" and when the puffer dies, will just go out and get another instead of understanding what happened and trying to do the right thing.

I expect to hear that this porcupine is dead before too long, if Walrus Head even admits that it died from his lack of compassion.

Sorry if that sounds harsh, but why should I not be angry if someone isn't doing what's right for the puffer? I'm sick of hearing about fish dying from people's lack of caring for them properly. I may not make all the right decisions, but I can honestly say that I do what I feel is right for my puffers, not what I want.

Wow everyone here is so melodramatic, I have a Fahaka 6'' long setup in another FW Tank we have had him since february when he was just 2.5inches long thus showing we have the Competance to look after Fish, before the fahaka we never had a puffer but endless amount of other tropical fish first cold water then tropical millions died because of shi.t water quality but in the end we learnt from our mistakes and got the right setup! And so the same story with the Marine Tank we are rectifiying any mistakes! thats why I came here to Get help and learn stuff Not to be Slagged off, that I wont take from anyone. If I was a nooob with no puffer history at all but wanted the best puffer then by all means go crazy But I have a Successful puffer history. Marine is a new branch of Aquariums with a bit more complex Chemistry but no big deal. If ever any of you Marinists get a FW Puffer yall will be needing help and it will be me That will be giving you Advice!! Not Slagging you off as y'all probably do to all marine nooobs that come on here. Of Course if the SW TAnk f****d and the fish start stressing out I would take em back to the shop! An $80 Porcupine fish (Uk Expensive!) is not worth messing around with if you dont kno what your doing that is Serious waste of money!
So please Advice I need not Lectures or I can go elsewhere for Help!

I'm glad your fahaka is growing so well. You feel you can give advice after keeping a fish alive for 6 months? How large is the tank your fahaka is in? What foods are you feeding it? How are his teeth? What is his water change schedule? Just a few test Qs, to see if you really know what you're doing with this special fish.

You say you came on here to get advice on how to keep your puffer but you haven't listened to one bit of the advice we have given you. So you wonder why the folks here are upset?

and tasting the water can work plus following the salts directions.

I once ingested a small amount of palyotoxin,
got some under my fingernails from handeling them and bit that nail(I almost never bite my nails)
Worst stomach ace ever,
a few pain pills had to be taken,
next day I was fine.

I don't think tasting tank water is either a good measurement of water quality, or a good idea period. You can pick up all sorts, including legionnaire's disease (source).
I suggest an API water test kit is sufficient; of course, PP's sig says it all: the solution to pollution is dilution! Water changes!
