There is no reason to add any salt to a FW tank. If the fish is stressed, Melafix is a good option. Yes, I buy most of my puffer's foods at the product depg in the grocery store. Freeze & then thaw in room temp or tank water. I add liquid fish vitamins to the thawing water.

I just read that aquarium salt helps prevent disease and if it doesn't hurt can i add it? Whats your thought on that?

And what kinda fish vitamins do you add and can salt water shrimps and other foods be okay? I just tossed a frozen salt water shrimp in and he doesn't seem to pay much mind to it but liked the bloodworms okay. He's swimming around now.

Please do not feed your puffer frozen foods, the cold isn't good for their digestive system. You should be able to find fish vits at most aquarium stores. Did you read that article on salt? It does not say anywhere in there that it works well as a disease preventative. That is a myth.

I'm glad he's eating. Be sure to clean out any foods he doesn't eat as soon as he's done.

I think you misunderstood there, I mean it was food that was frozen before, not when I fed him.

So buying salt water foods such as salt water frozen shrimps/molluscs/clams/snails/seafoods for him in the frozen isle is okay right? Just want an okay from 2 people about that.

k, sorry I was waiting on a yes in reference to my comment about salt water foods. Just thought maybe the marine salt in them might somehow irritate the fish.

I've let him adjust to the tank water for two hours or so, and yes it is cycled. But he seems to be just laying there. Is that normal for a puffer to act? I mean, considering I had to drive him all the way back to my house which is about 40 mins away.

I'm guessing he's like that because he's tired and stressed from the ride and he should be okay tomorrow? Hope he will be. He's a cute little thing.

it took mine almost 2 days to get relaxed after the journey to my home. He will be fine in a while Try feeding him a earthworm... its wiggly and will tricker his hunting skills a bit. As long as he eats he's doing ok

The only earthworms I think I can get atm are probably in my little garden and I think there are some fertzz in there. Not sure where it's safe to look.

yeah I give him a eathworm now and then.... Some put up a good "fight" aswell. I got a vid on youtube where i feed Master Yoda his second one. You can still see him acting "Can I eat this or not?"

Go to your local fishing bait store. THey usually sell them by the dozen.

How do you guys know when to feed your fish? Am I suppose to wait till he's rummaging around for food to feed him or what? I just dropped him a worm and he didn't really go at it. Hopefully that just means he's not that hungry and not that he's sick or anything like that .
