...or would this be an exercise in wasted money/life? There aren't many brackish fish to start.

Sure, there are plenty--depending on how big your tank is...

Bumblebee gobies are popular F8 tankmates.

Recall the face of the poorest and the weakest man whom you may have seen, and ask yourself, if the step you contemplate is going to be of any use to him or her. Will she gain anything by it? Will it restore her to a control over her own life and destiny? In other words, will it lead to freedom for the hungry and spiritually starving millions? Then you will find your doubts and your self melt away."

What about a dragon goby? I just don't want my F8's to take a munch out of it. I have a 30 long with my 2 F8's and that's it.

Is there anything special I'd need to do, then, if I got a dragon goby? I was thinking of doing so sooner than later, but my cat needed to see the vet, and well, we all know that drains your account quickly. Would I need to provide some hidie spots for it- maybe put some of my smaller rocks in and around the texas holy rock?

I keep a figure 8, four mollies, 1 knight goby, and 1 dragon goby (still a juvie) in a 38 gallon. The knight goby is probably my most active although the mollies are growing on me. Just don't get too atached if you get bumble bee gobies or smaller livebeares, your puffers may decide to get hungry in the middle of the night. As for the dragon goby, the puffer leaves him alone. In fact I think he's afraid of him. For hiding spots, although not the prettiest thing in the world, get pvc piping. Draco loves it! I think I read somewhere on here about someone using aquarium grade sealant and glued pepples on a pvc pipe to make it look like a rock cave. You could do that if you don't like the way the pipe looks in the tank. Draco is the mister grouch and he hides in his pipe all day, unless I sit down by the tank then he'll poke his head out and stare at me. They can also be pretty territorial. He'll take after any of the other fish who even think about coming near his pipe.

I'm learning that puffer fish are like pringles. There is no such thing as only wanting one.

Tanks:
38 gallon: 1 Figure 8 puffer, 1 Dragon Goby, 1 Knight Goby, 3 Black Mollies
30 gallon: 1 Blue Acara, 1 Bristlenose Pleco
120 gallon: Ratchet the Fahaka Puffer

Thanks. I don't mind pvc pipe looking like itself. The lfs said they are getting a dragon goby in today. :D

I really am uncomfortable with Dragon Gobies and Puffers mixed. I keep a species only tank of them and, really, they require about 50 gallons apiece to thrive. Also for some puffers the back fin is too tempting of a treat to pass up and it could suddenly look like a paper punch got loose in there.....Sorry PP, I know we don't see eye to eye on this one but I'd feel remiss in my fish keeping if I didn't voice my opinion. :soapbox:

Well I bought the dragon today. He's got a hidie tube. I figured if PP had one with her F8's its at least doable. He's gorgeous. I took some pix. He's acclaimating right now. I'll keep testing my water to see if there are any spikes as a consequense of adding him.

What a gorgeous dragon. Yeah keep an eye on the water parameters just to make sure and keep an eye on him, like others have already said there is always the chance that the puffers won't tolerate him. Good luck!

Dad, You are welcome to disagree. That's what this forum is about--giving our pracitical experiences. I've got tons of decor & everything (even fins) looks good. I do large weekly WC & the DG appears happy to me.
