So I went to several different LFS and I was told NOT to put my GSP in marine salt. That aqaurium salt was just fine. I'm not sure I believe that but im just REALLY confused now because I was also told to USE marine salt. So what should I do??

- My Puffers: I have had my first puffer for about 2-3 weeks now and her name is Mrs. Puff, i just bought another puffer about 5 days ago and his name is Mr. Puff. They are awsome fish and they look great!! Mr. Puff is more curious and loves to see me. Mrs. Puff is very shy but im working with her so hopefully she will become more open.

Aquarium salt = tonic salt (used to help treat ich, among other things). It contains absolutely no beneficial minerals, and cannot increase the specific gravity (SG) of your water to create brackish or marine conditions.
Marine salt = what you need to use.
LFS are almost always incorrect about this. Take it from experienced long-term fishkeepers here.

I'm not so sure they're lying, they're just passing on false information or hearsay. Most LFS owners rely on what the dealer tells them about a given fish, and so they pass on this information to the customer because they haven't taken the time to do their research. Still, no excuse.I love reading posts where people are upset with LFSs, because it just makes me that much happier that I work at one where I get to tell people the truth. It kind of shocks people when you actually try to talk them out of buying something - and I do that often, and not just with puffers. (Although of course I am especially protective of our puffers.)

Yea i found out that guy was lying when he said that. I told him my mom has a marine aquarim that is 10g and she has been running it for 5 great successful years and he said "You shouldnt bother with marine salt in an aquarium that small its pointless." i said "well why dont you call my mom and tell her that!" haha he clearly didnt know what he was talking about!!

well since your on here. i just found something weird with my new puffer. He keeps chewing or moving his teeth like hes chewing on something but he isnt, and the left side of him is moving like hes gasping for air on one side but the other side is fine?? Is that a problem?
