Prazipro 1st Deworming Treatment

Oh no! Sick fish?! Come here and see if someone can help!

Since this board has been up, we have found there are several questions that routinely get asked in order to help diagnose problems. If you can have that information to begin with in your post, we'll be able to help right away (if we can!) without having to wait for you to post the info we need.

1) Your water parameters - pH, Ammonia, Nitrite, Nitrates and salinity (if appropriate). This is by far the most important information you can provide! Do not answer this with "Fine" "Perfect" "ok", that tells us nothing. We need hard numbers.

2) Tank size and a list of ALL inhabitants. Include algae eaters, plecos, everything. We need to know what you have and how big the tank is.

3) Feeding, water change schedule and a list of all products you are using or have added to the tank (examples: Cycle, Amquel, salt, etc)

4) What changes you've made in the tank in the last week or so. Sometimes its the little things that make all the difference.

5) How long the aquarium has been set up, and how did you cycle it? If you don't know what cycling is read this: Fishless Cycling Article and familiarize yourself with all the information. Yes. All of it.

We want to help, and providing this information will go a LONG way to getting a diagnosis and hopeful cure that much faster.

While you wait for assistance:
One of the easiest and best ways to help your fish feel better is clean water! If you are already on a regular water change schedule (50% weekly is recommended) a good step to making your fish more comfortable while waiting for diagnosis/suggestions is to do a large water change immediately. Feel free to repeat daily or as often as you can, clean water is always a good thing! Use of Amquel or Prime as a dechlor may help with any ammonia or nitrite issues, and is highly recommended.

Note - if you do not normally do large water changes, doing a sudden, large water change could shock your fish by suddenly changing their established water chemistry. Clean water is still your first goal, so in this case, do several smaller (10%) water changes over the next day or two before starting any large ones.

Prazipro 1st Deworming Treatment

Post by liquid88 »

Tank: 29 Gallon
Ammonia: 0
Nitrite:0
Nitrate:5-10
pH:8.0
Inhabitants: 1 GSP & a few Pond Snails
Salinity: Adding 1/4 cup of salt per day for 5 or 6 days until 1.002
Fishless cycled...took 13 days.

I'm keeping a small GSP for a fiend of mine in my recently cycled 29G. The fish is >2" inches. He got him last week and had to go out of town and has been in my tank for 2 days. I've been feeding him frozen shrimp, sun dried baby shrimp, MTS, freeze dried krill, and regular Pond snails. My friend hadn't had the chance to deworm him yet so I went ahead and treated his water with Prazipro.

Any suggestions for how often to change the water? Or how much to add to food? I know Annabelle's owner has alot of experience with this kinda stuff.

I really wouldn't waste it by adding it to his water. They don't "drink" water. I'm not sure how much to add to his food. I haven't treated for IPs since Discomed. Is he skinny?

No he's not skinny but he did pass some stringy poop since the prazi went in the tank, he closed one of his gills so I don't think he lkes it. I guess I'll just do a large water change and add some drops to his food in the morning.

I fed him this morning and added the prazi afterwards because I read that sometimes they do not eat at first while being treated.

Yeah, to make it more appealing, you could soak the food in crushed garlic.

That's interesting. Like you said Pufferpunk, they don't "drink" the water but somehow it seems to get into their system without feeding it to them. Since I added the Prazi to the tank little Sammy has been passing IP poo more frequently. He hasn't gotten lazy and is still very active. He started using that gill again last night.

I added a few drops of prazi mixed with crushed garlic and vitamins to some sun dried baby shrimp, some krill and some shrimp today. He seemed quite interested with it and the "fumes" coming off it when I put it in the tank, but after he took a bite or two he just chased the food around an nibbled at it occasionally. He didn't eat his belly full either, just enough that I knew he ate something.

I found out today the he will eat flake food. So long as its red or orange. I soaked some sun dried gammarus in Prazi/vitamin/garlic solution and he ate them all. I tried krill also but he didn't want it.
