Compatibility - GPS and Foxface Rabbitfish

Post by lmsmith »

Will 2 GSPs and a foxface be okay together for a few months? The puffers are about 2.5 inches and live in a marine tank, they don't worry the damsel or each other and are completely not aggressive right now, but will be moving in about 6 months to their own tank. Can you see any major issues?

It's always a tossup with a puffer like a GSP - but since they have very different diets, there wouldn't be much food competition, and territorial marine fish such as this tend to be better GSP tankmates than most brackish fish.
No matter how magnificent your successes or devastating your failures, the worlds' approximately 5 billion impoverished people could not possibly care less.

Sounds like they may work if the puffer's not too aggressive & thetank is large enough & well decorated. Some can't go with any fish.

Careful with the Foxface, they have a poisonous spine that packs quite a whallop!

Do you think the foxface would have a problem stinging the puffer? What I've read about them it seems that they don't attack other fish, but will defend themselves if they need to do so. Both of my puffs are very laidback, and I do have another tank I can separate it into if need be.

Puffers have spines & a very thick skin. I have had them together with lionfish w/o any problems. I just worry about humans & foxface. ;)

At least you were able to have a GSP and a lion together without a hitch. My mom had a 100+ gal marine setup with a juivie GSP, a Lion, a Damsel and a clown. Lion ate the clown, lion ate the damsel, Lion ate the GSP, Lion went belly up
