I am planning on getting a 30 gallon in August and this is what I'm planning:
1 male irrubesco
3 female irrubesco
1 male DP (already have)
3 female DP's (already have 2)
2 spotted cories
Would this work? I don't have a quarantine tank so there must be none to maybe a little fighting.
Would these puffers work for a 30 gallon?

If you don't have a qt, use a tupperwear tub with a lid. If you have a sponge filter let it cycle in the tank you already have and use that in the tupperwear for the new fish. No need to get another tank for qt. You can buy a very large plastic container almost anywhere for under $10.
Don't mix different puffer species. That will be a disaster. With a 30 gallon you can have 10 dp's. Or you can cycle the 30 gallon and get the irrubesco's. Not sure how cory's will do with either species. Someone that keeps irrubesco's will have to answer that for you.

Btw: If you don't have a spong filter you can make one really cheap. Just do a search for diy sponge filters.

Re: Would these puffers work for a 30 gallon?
I may be able to keep one of my tanks (I have 2 other tanks, a 10 gallon community and the 5 gallon with my puffers. My parents say I can only have two tanks. {If you haven't heard, I'm only 11.) I may do this.
Move my DP's to the 10 gallon, and move the community fish to the 5 gallon and sell the 5 gallon. But first clean the 10 gallon. No wc/vc since 3 years ago. The filter is getting pretty disquisting too. It's got crust on the sides, I think it's aquarium salt. I'm going to Wal-Mart tonight, so I'll pick up some replacement pads and a siphon. Do a 75% w/c and do a major v/c and keep irrubesco in the 30 gallon by themselves. Would 1 male and 3 females irrubesco in a 30 work?

One.
Pufferpedia says 20g each.
"I will give you a talisman. Whenever you are in doubt, or when the self becomes too much with you, apply the following test. Recall the face of the poorest and the weakest man whom you may have seen, and ask yourself, if the step you contemplate is going to be of any use to him or her. Will she gain anything by it? Will it restore her to a control over her own life and destiny? In other words, will it lead to freedom for the hungry and spiritually starving millions? Then you will find your doubts and your self melt away."

Definately move the DPs into the 10g. I prefer to see them get 5g ea.

This is what Schismy007 said.
I think they will be fine, but just don't take that for 100% though because things can always go wrong, but I think, for the most part, you should be okay.

You think that that combination would be better? If you think that they'd be fine then that'll be great!

How about 2 irrubesco and 3 DP's ? I just don't like the idea of one irrubesco on it's own in there with those dwarf puffers, but it's ultimately your decision, your tank.

Actually, 4 sounds a little cramped. I might just get one with 5 DP's. What is your say on that?

Obviously I can't guarantee anything because all puffers are different, but what I'm saying is that mine are fine together, so you might be okay with keeping the dwarf puffers with the irrubesco. I would say that you probably won't have any problems keeping a cory with the redeyes though.

So would you say they'll be okay?

All I can tell you is that mine are fine .... but keep in mind that mine are in a 56-gallon tank.

People have been saying that 4 irrubesco in a 30 gallon with ANY other species of puffer is a bad idea. I read that they can be nice, thought. They've never had them before, though, so if you think that they'd be fine, I'll go with it.

Hi,
Well I only have other redeye puffers in with my irrubesco, which are salivator and lorteti. I have some Rasboras, gobies, and corydoras' in there also. And no, they are not mean, they are probably worse to each other than they are to others. Redeyes in general are not very nice towards their own kind, but no one's been hurt or killed, so that's the important part.

How's are ya? Are your irrubesco mean to your other puffers? I'm getting real interested in them and I want to know everything I can about them.

I'm locking this thread, as it is identical to another one you have already started. We try not to double post here, as it confuses folks who respond in them.
