Just to let you know of a cheap external filter!!!!!

Just as info for you guys, Interpet are stopping production of the interpet EPF 150 its an external power filter, I have just bought one for about £30 and have to say its extremely good, it comes with a very comprehencive media selection and enough power for up to a 4 foot tank in my opinion.

Thought this info may help some of you wanting to go to external and because of the production stopping the price is very very cheap. I think its got bio media like hula hoops on outside then course media the medium then fine then more bio then empty cartridge for media of choice then a bag of activated filter carbon, and is all included with all pipes/ spray bar etc.

Worth looking at.

Have they explained, or do you know, why they're stopping production?
May be worth bearing in mind that they also stopped producing the T5 compact fluorescent lighting because when the EU tightened up on the regulations their product failed to meet safety standards (and there are numerous reports, and I've experienced this first hand, of the rubber end caps melting on to the tubes creating a fire risk).

I'm just not convinced by Interpet lately...

I don't mean to throw people off with this, but it's always safest checking things out first. A little bit of research can help you make an informed purchase.

Worth mentioning yes, mines been on the go a week and is perfect but the guy i bought it from bought 500 of them for his fish shop and he was told that they couldnt compete with eheim on that size filter and because they never broke down there was no profit in selling parts to existing customers. Fluval are doing the same with the 1234 ranges.... Too reliable i.e people where getting 15 years out of them, and not giving continued business but this can only be considered heresay.

Regarding pattern safety issues after extensive searching and phoning i cant find any reference to problems with the EPF 150.

It is doing a cracking job for me and the media placement and selection is very sensible from a 'happy fish' point of view and a science one too. When it comes to replacing media i just buy big bulk bags of the stuff and cut it up instead of buying the made to measure bundleas its better and cheaper and can be suited to your needs. will keep you all posted.

So just keep in mind, if it breaks there will be no parts for it. I have kept the same Aquaclears working for over 25 years, by replacing impellers, etc.

Funny....... Im not sure how many people are on this forum but, not just in this thread, baut others too, I have tried to save people money and took out the time to mention things that i have found to be helpful. Yet for whatever reason (and i stress its in most threads not just this one) there is very little in the way of thanks. Not sure why as im a member of a few other forums and apart from 1 or 2 people on here it seems more likely for those who reply to be picky.

Just thought it noteworthy as it makes me disinclined to post anything i feel would help. Thats not the point of a forum is it.

I'm sorry that you misunderstood my reply, if it's mine you're referring to. I was thinking of the many other forum members who might run off to buy that product you're promoting, only to come back on here and cry foul when things (may) go wrong. My reply had the in-short summary of "always better to be safe than sorry and to check out a purchase first than to rush into it". I can't see this as being anything other than common sense.

So, sorry that you've taken offence. My post certainly wasn't intended to give any.

Noted and no it wasn't in reference to your post, its just a general note of a problem i have seen on this forum. The few i noted are thread hijacking and fault picking.

As you noted, this happens on all forums. There are always those few folks who constantly hijack threads & find fault. Then there are the folks who play devil's advocate & there's nothing wrong with that. I always am greatful for folks like you who bother to speak up when they find something good for the hobby!
