Greetings all...

Post by Arothron Junkie »

Hello Everyone,
Just ran across this board and had to join. My girlfriend and I are both puffer addicts, so this seemed the place to be. We have several marine tanks going with 4 puffers at present. (and one more likely within the week) My girlfriend works in the marine fish industry and has been for 9'ish years now.

Our stable includes a 2.5" blue spot named "Jiblet", a 4" spinney box "Melvin", and a 5" dog face "Snoogins". As soon as a particular mappa completes his quarantine at the LFS where she works we will have a juv mappa as well.

Again, our compliments on this board...

Welcome aboard! Yep, sounds like you guys have the puffer addiction! We'd love to hear more about your puffs/tanks and maybe see some pictures.

Very Nice. It looks like he has a very nice home too!

(Pssst... Don't tell Woland that you heard this from me but we could use some competition in the Puffer and Tank of the month contests. )

The spiney box (burrfish) is my favorite! I'm still scanning & editing my pics from the last dive trip. Somewhere in there is a pic of a cute lil "furry-looking" juvie.

Jiblet is about 2.5" long (seems nearly that wide after feeding...lil piglet) and lives in a 55 gallon. Some of his tankmates are the dogface, a 4" greenbird wrasse, a 2.5" cowfish, 3" mandarin goby, 2" emperor angel, and 3.5" chocolate tang. As the critters get bigger they move out of the nursery...hence soon the wrasse and tang are going to live with the 8" guinea fowl puffer soon.

Everyone in the tank gets along great except maybe the chocolate tang who is a bit of a butt-hole. The dogface and the toby get along great, usually hanging out together... The dogface kind of looks at the toby as a "mini-me".

The cowfish gets along great w' everyone, never had a problem there. He has kind of a "territory" of the top left region of the tank where he spends most of his time.

Jiblet is usually hanging out with either the dogface or helping the emperor angel clean the filter intake for any missed tidbits. My dogface is very laid back, a total pig, but sweet. Since he is the biggest fish in the tank and calm that helps everyone else stay quiet too.

Note: although THIS cowfish is mr personality and gets on well with everyone I did have a cowfish once for about 36 hours who beat the snot out of everything in the tank. He was then put in with a larger *clown trigger* and did the same to him...he went back to the LFS the next day.
