My feeder tank

Post by mrgreen »

I have a 5.5 gallon that I originally planned to have some hatchets in. I've since turned it into a lilght-brackish feeder tank. I thought these pictures were interesting. Care to guess what's in there? :)

Worms! blood worms. They were waving about together, looking like anenomea. The fiddler crab and ghost shimp eat them, and of course I put the worms and snails in for my dwarf puffer to eat. Waiting for the snails to reproduce a bit faster. lol

I'm (slowly) putting together my first puffer setup (thinking of going with a F8) and your feeder tank intrigues me. Are you raising the snails and worms in brackish water, or is the feeder tank fresh? I was under the impression that nerite snails were the only commonly-available brackish water snails (although I'm happy to be wrong because it could make life much simpler :D )

The bloodworms will be fine in a fw tank. Same with the snails. I'm actually planning on making a feeder tank too. It's currently a 5 gallon for my 2 DP's. I plan on moving them to either a 10 or 30 gallon. Once they get out I'm hoping to breed ghost shrimp for irrubesco, and I'll keep a couple platies or something in there too, to fill in the space.

Doesn't the water have to be shallow enough for the bloodworms to get air?

I don't think so. They are multiplying like crazy as it is. So are the snails- but the babies are tiny. Waiting for them to grow. Only gonna take another year.... ;)

Another year! I've got snails in my pond tank (an old old old old 20 gallon with tadpoles, snails, and a lily all from my aunt's house) and they'll lay eggs and 2 weeks later their breeding!

I'm being sarcastic. They wouldn't do any good for their beaks at this size- too small and soft.
