Started Converting To Brackish, Minor Problem, Ideas?

Post by carlos »

Well thats me started adding the salt to my set up for the f8's and the gobys, i have a 25 gallon tank and its a steady 80 deg, parameters are all good. I put in enough salt to cover less than one tablespoon per gallon, i mixed up 16 tablespoons worth (not really heaped either) just to start it all off. Fish look happy and gobies are much more colourful. However it has turned the water a tad white cloudy, not major but just annoying as it was absolutely perfect before.

Is this another bacteria bloom trying to cope with the new salt? Or is it the salt itself? I got water ready dechlonrinated it added the salt slowly and got it all dissolved, then added it to the tank, did this with a 35 litre water change

Any ideas? Should i just wait it out?

Thanks Carlos

Do you have a hydrometer or refractometer?

You have to add the water, then the salt, when you mix it. If you put the salt in first, it gets cloudy. Idk why, but that's what everyone says. It sounds like you put salt into water, but did you put water into salt?
"I will give you a talisman. Whenever you are in doubt, or when the self becomes too much with you, apply the following test. Recall the face of the poorest and the weakest man whom you may have seen, and ask yourself, if the step you contemplate is going to be of any use to him or her. Will she gain anything by it? Will it restore her to a control over her own life and destiny? In other words, will it lead to freedom for the hungry and spiritually starving millions? Then you will find your doubts and your self melt away."

Also if you put too much salt to too little water it will be cloudy.

Iput the water in my container (about 8 gallons) and treated it and then mixed in a tablespoon at a time until completely dissolved, went to 16 tablespoons (not heaped, not quite level) so thats overall 16 tablespoons of salt for 25 gallons, which is far less than would cause problems from what ive read, my refractometer is in the post thats why i did what i would call a low dose to get started and not cause bother.

Have just woken up and the tank is alittle clearer now, fish are still happy and c`olourful so think it just maybe took a little bacteria with it, cos it does resemble the tale end of a bloom.

Ammonia 0, nitrate 0, Nitrite 0, PH 7.5, 80.4 degrees. So im happy with that. Thanks for the replies guys, as its clearing ok ill give it time.

Cheers
