Elvis (growth sprut?)
I think Elvis might be going into a growth spurt.
He's one of the rare puffer's that dosen't really overeat. When he's full he will turn his head and refuse food. Annabelle will eat until she is about to pop! I fed Elvis his normal meal yesterday 1 clam, 2 mussel's and a shrimp. I mix it up often but usually I feed him 4 items. Well yesterday he ate his meal and then he was blowing sand bitting at everything in the sand and acting like he was still hungry.
He never does this. So I defrosted another shrimp and two pieces of crab. He ate it up like it was his first meal in days!
After that he went and laid in his cave (which he normally does after a regular meal). I think he might be going through a growth spurt!
It reminded me of when my son would eat very little for a year or so then all of a sudden he was eating everything! Then he would shoot up 3"-4". Has anyone else experienced this? I'm wondering if I should start feeding him just a little more on meal days.
Maybe feed him 6 items instead of 4?

grow, elvis, grow!!
my puffs will always eat everything, so I have no experience with this.. but holy man, that's a lot of food per feeding.

Thats quite a meal. Kind of like an appetizer at a good restaurant! Nothing constructive to add...but, wow.

I guess the more they grow then the more they need to eat, right? If that's how much he wants, then that's how much I'd feed him.

That's what I was thinking. He never ever act's like that. So when I saw him searching for more food I knew he had to still be hungry. He's so chubby his belly dosen't even get round like Annabelle's. I always figured that since he stops when he's had enough I wouldn't worry about it. Sounds like my boy is growing and needs more meat!Jase wrote:I guess the more they grow then the more they need to eat, right? If that's how much he wants, then that's how much I'd feed him.

Yep, I absolutely have experience with this.........my son has been 6'3 since he was 13. He literally grew a foot in one summer. He hasn't eaten since and looks like a toothpick!

Re: Elvis (growth sprut?)
Yep. Paris does it every few months. Normally she eats a single shrimp or two nightcrawlers, then all of a sudden she'll keep begging and eat 2-3 shrimp or 5 or 6 nightcrawlers for a few days and pretty soon I'm going, "hey, did you grow?"
Corona does it too.. but its more of a weight thing with him.. he's always on the skinny side, and every time we get a little weight on him that horse grows a few more inches (either in height or chest/barrel width) and ends up skinny again. Its typical for his bloodlines to be underweight when young I've been told, but after years of having horses that could eat air and be overweight, its kind of mind blowing to me.

My gsp(leonards) has been acting the same way lately. If i dont feed him enough he goes around chewing everthing he can off the live rock. Then he goes and sits in his cave for hours. Id say hes pushing 4".
