Starting a New Tank

Post by madabess »

Hi There,

I had a 10g quarantine tank set-up for one of my Oscars and we since got another 10g. The O is back in his 90g home so now I have an xtra tank that I am going to convert to brackish.

I just wanted to run my plan by experienced brackish tank owners to see if I was planning anything that might be really bad.

I have the following:
10g (20x10x12) with glass top and strip light, Penguin Mini, heater
15lbs aragonite (sp?)
med and sm peice of bogwood
I am planning on trying plants even though I know brackish conditions are not the best for it but I have checked out a lot of plant sites for thier reccomendations and am going to give it a try

I want to put a Fig. 8 (Biocellatus) in the tank with a few of BBG's
The Fig 8 would have to go in first since my LFS keeps them in Freshwater and the BBG in brackish (I have to verify if they know what brackish is but they say it is)

Water changes would be done along with my 90g every week approx 30%

Let me know if everything sounds ok as I am anxious to get it going (LFS got F8s in but they aren't doing too well so I will have to wait a bit but I want to be ready.

Cheers,
m.

the only issue would be the bogwood, it has the ability to soften the water and lower the ph. i would remove it and use something else that wont alter tank parameters.

otherwise seems ok, though id cycle it BW first as well so you are ready to roll when the fig 8s are ready.

I personally think a 10 gallon is to small to house a mature f8 and bumblebees. Especially if you're just beginning brackish, IMHO.
