Re: Plants
I am only a newbie but currently have fake plants, am hopefully in the process of getting live ones, if you have freshwater from everything I have read they are certainly beneficial. There are certain types for Brackish also, though have to be careful on selection!

Re: Plants
I'm definitely a live plants + driftwood person, mainly because i like the more natural look and feel in my tanks
, but the risk with that is depending on your puffer, they may also get destroyed...

Re: Plants
I have gone nuts for live plants. Nothing special just the easy to grow low light don't need much attention plants. But I would love to do an awesome planted tank with the bottom covered in grass.
I just don't care for the co2 thing.

Re: Plants
I always have live plants.
They help me to keep the water free of ammonia/nitrite and low nitrates.
I can't forget to say about the natural looking tank!

Re: Plants
I love live plants but don't love a lot of pruning/trimming, especially in a tank of fish with big teeth.
So I stick to crypts and anubias for the most part. I love lace java fern too but haven't seen any locally for a long time.

Re: Plants
Unless your tank is gigantic, you can buy or make your own CO2 setups really easily. I've got the Nutrafin CO2 system for my setup and I love it. Other easy way to do it is with a leftover soda bottle, some tubing and some baking supplies. There's really nothing to it.edmlfc1 wrote:I have gone nuts for live plants. In general, I've had live plants for a year or two now. I find that they just look so much better than the fake ones. They are harder to keep, but they keep down the algae in my tank and are well worth the extra effort!

Re: Plants
Live plants are so much more pretty in my opinion! Right now, I have both actually. My fish bit off two of the leaves and has left it alone ever since... what a weirdo!

Re: Plants
I have a combination of fake and live. I want to get some java moss and crypt soon. I currently have some elodea and an... I think it's called ozelot? Well, whatever it is, it's very small and potted. I hope it grows... I'm working on building up a heavier planting, since I have DPs, but I'm poor, so it's a slow process.
"I will give you a talisman. Whenever you are in doubt, or when the self becomes too much with you, apply the following test. Recall the face of the poorest and the weakest man whom you may have seen, and ask yourself, if the step you contemplate is going to be of any use to him or her. Will she gain anything by it? Will it restore her to a control over her own life and destiny? In other words, will it lead to freedom for the hungry and spiritually starving millions? Then you will find your doubts and your self melt away."

Re: Plants
I have both, but I prefer live. My favorites are anubias because they are so easy to care for and so easy to move whenever I feel like it or just to clean since they are not planted in the gravel but instead tied to driftwood. Very pretty too!
