schismy007 wrote:That's silly. I think I might have told them to stuff their £5 bag! If I know I'm going to a LFS, I take this plastic container that I use for transporting fish, especially as I'm most concerned with puffers, and as you well know, they can bite through a bag.

I would have been insulted if they had told me I needed to pay for a decent bag to put the expensive fish I'd just bought in. That's a bit greedy if you ask me.

I've heard alot of hype about BAS, and so I've wanted to go, but there would have to be a VERY good reason for us to travel so far. I've been tempted by Pier too.
Pier is a far better choice, veyr nice polite staff good friends with them all up there had a few nice fish from them in the past including my Asterophysus batrachus.

BAS is a good shop a large number of tanks but the marine section is definatly the best. The rest seems to look very old, the tanks are bare and in all honest fish are good but some seem a little underweight. They get some rare bits in and are very fairly priced had a few nice bits of interest in before such as tigrinus cats, sturgeon shovelnose, rarer shrimps, rare cats, wild caught central americans.... i can keep going on lol. But Pier is certainly the best of the two :)

I think somebody needs to come up with a 'Puffer-Only Store'. Now that's one I would be visiting every weekend!! :D

lol wouldnt stay open very long, would make very little money upfortunatly. Best and most practical thing would be to open a store with say a dedicated puffer section :)

BAS is the best shop nearby and the staff have always been very helpful and friendly with me. The marine section is good and they often have porcs, dogfaces, and valentinies they have recently got a stars and stripes too. They seem to be getting more and more puffs in I have seen, Ceylons, Fig 8's, Salivators, Dwarfs, Irrubescos and GSP's. They always seem resonably priced to me and the fish i buy are more often that not in good condition. I go almost every weekend because there is a childrens play area and my 3 year old niece loves to go in it (She also likes to find Nemo every week hahaha!)

Okay Bruce, I will concede that a Puffer-Only store would not be all that successful, but I like the idea of a dedicated puffer section, that's music to my ears!

Mysifier, does BAS have those Ceylons with any regularity? That is another one I really want to get. Do you remember how much they go for at all? A LFS near me was supposed to get Ceylons, but they never got the delivery. I'd love to have one though.

Yeah they have had them in regular for the past few weeks that I have been there, I'm not sure of the price, but I can find out for you when I next go if you like? The ones I have seen have all looked round and heathy, a few had dark bellies but thats probably from being in close proximity to other ceylons! They all came over to the glass to look at me though :D

^ I can't remember exactly where, but i sort remember seeing a some pics of a possible aquarium dedicated to puffers that was in Japan??? but yeah for the most part i'd expect puffers to be on the menu more than peoples aquariums...
