Snails!
Is it just me or are GSP's really good at finding snails. I just put some greenery in my tank with a bunch of dwarf ramshorns on them. About 10+. ANd they are now gone, its only been a minute or so.

Re: Snails!
Oh yes, they'll clean a tank of snails in no time. Puffers love them, and what makes it great is that they're excellent for keeping the puffer's teeth trimmed down. Plan to make them a normal part of his diet, if at all possible.

Re: Snails!
do you think it at all possible for a 2" puffer to eat a full grown ramshorn snail, not a dwarf. Because all the snails I buy i have to get from a lady in Michigan. Id like to start breeding them but not quite sure how... Havent really been successful so far.

Re: Snails!
Well, if a snail is small enough, a puffer will just grab the whole thing and crunch it up, then spit out the shell fragments. With larger snails, they seem to go just for the head or whatever parts stick out from under the shell, and attack them - so the snail gets pieces taken out of it and usually eventually dies from the damage.

Where do you get these feeder snails at. They only have $1+ snails at my LFS.

Alright
I bought 5 adult ramshorn snails on ebay and now i breed them in small (5 gallon) tank. They're pretty easy to breed. There's an article on it in the forum library.
Cheers

Re: Snails!
aquatics unlimited will sell you snails. They have a pretty good number of them too, and once they start to recognize you, they'll hook you up.
I haven't been there for some time (looking for snails, that is) so you may be able to get a good number of them.

Re: Snails!
I must go in on the right days, then.. Hoffer's will usually hook me up with a buncha snails too. Their tanks ALWAYS have snails in them. I forget their pricing, however.
If you ever plant a tank, there's a pet shop in Cudahy that will "accidentally" throw in a buncha snails if you buy a plant or two. They can't "sell" you snails, however, since it's now illegal in Cudahy and South Milwaukee.
