Tetraodon Pustulatus (Cross River Puffer)

Just found out that there is a lfs in Houston Tx. that has the Cross River puffer's. I think they only have 3 in stock, one is sold and the cost............................are you ready........................sit down.......................are you sitting....................hold it steady...................
twenty five hundred dollars. Yeap that's right that would be two thousand five hundred dollars for a possible fahaka puffer. I hope it's a true Cross River.

Nope, no need for ID. The fish store that has gave it the correct name. Noone managed to get a picture or video of it. The store is aobut a 2 hour drive for me, and I'm heading in the opposite way this weekend or I would be on my way camera in hand. I would love to see this in person. Although I think I might know where I can see the one that sold! The person that bought it has lot's of experience with fish. Not sure about puffer experience but her husband has several fish tanks in his business. I'm assuming this one will be going there too. Or maybe it's going to their home. Either way I really hope it's a true cross river, only time will tell.

Ok guys and gals if you want a picture you are going to have to talk to thekaren's! Now that she has signed up here I can say she is the reason I found out about the cross river puffer. If I'm right she saw it in person. Maybe we can be reallllllllllllllyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy nice to her and maybe, just maybe she will sneak us a picture! Plllllllllleeeeeeeeeeaaaaasssssssseeeeee!

For a second when i read the title i thought you had bought one ... but after ready what you wrote, all i can say is wow, thats some price tag... now i'm wondering how much they sell for in Hong Kong, since one of the stores i spoke to said they do get them in...

I have read several post where folks have said they bought a cross river puffer only to find out a few months to years down the road all they got was a young fahaka. It's kind of scary when you think about paying big bucks for somehting and find out later it's now what you have.

Been looking at these in the aqualog book, these guys come from africa like lineatus does these come from cameroon so if they were caught from there would be a much safer bet and they are cited to reach 36cm in length which is smaller than the linetus.

Unfortunately we're headed out of town or I'd stop by Fish Gallery and take a pic. If I had realized how rare they are I would have taken a pic with my phone When one of the guys there told me about him I just nodded my head because I know how often help at the lfs is wrong. It wasn't until I posted on our local fish board that I found out they really are rare

Been reading reading up a little more and getting some back info these were described back in 1857 by murray and lineatus were described even futher back in 1758 so i wonder if these are just parhaps reigonal variants? although they do come from different locaities and have different cited max sizes.
