Food Question
Hi there. I am new to the forum and to puffers. I have a 33 galllon tank and a 20 gallon. Both have just cycled. I am hoping to find dwarf puffers here but I see mostly figure eights in my LFS. I will be starting them in fresh and will slowly increase the salinity. My question is: I live very close to the beach and there are tons of little crabs everywhere, as well as masses of very small mussles. Would it be a problem to gather these on the beach and then feed them to the puffers?

You would really have to be careful and quarantine them for a very long time, because they carry parasites and other yucky things on them. It would be safer just to buy the food grade and freeze.

Welcome to the forum bodicea
I asked a similar Q the other day and I was advised to quarintine the crabs and mussels for a week to make sure they don't have anything wrong with them
If you don't have the means to do this you can freeze them for a week which will kill any paracites in them

Yep, freeze or QT for a week, and you should be fine!
