Moving GSP to new tank... need help

just wondering.. why do you have to get everything off line?? no fish stores in your area?? Mine give me snails for free and if your in a regular size or bigger town.. you can find most stuff you could or should need used in the local paper.. times are tough.. fish tanks and filters go cheap used these days.. i've bought 6 tanks with heaters, filters, gravel, sand, everything.. for maybe 350$ total over the last two months.. plus 2 of the tanks were in use so i dropped the filter into the water and hauled home so I didnt have to cycle the tank! check your local paper.. you mite be suprised.. ps .. dont risk not getting the heater.. and dont get on from walmart!!! my cheap walmart heater messed up and cooked one of my tanks!!!

Not everyone has great LFSs. Sad, but true. I for one live in a small town, and it's hard to find stuff used locally. We actually have two LFSs, and one's so tiny that you literally have trouble turning around in one of them, and the other is always almost empty. They don't have the room to stock half of what I'm looking for (seriously, one didn't even have aquarium covers!), and they'd lose money by trying to keep anything obscure in stock. Local businesses around here don't get a lot of traffic. Most don't last a year.

Puffers pout when moved. They take a while to adjust to new surroundings & won't eat right away. I know it sounds weird but he's freaking out with all that room. Is there plenty of decor for him to investigate & make him feel safe?

Backgrounds can help too, or even just turning out the lights/draping a sheet across for the first day.

yea theres lots of decor and background and this morning he seemed a bit more active than staying on one side of the tank

i found out that my mom had 2 really nice heaters from when she used to keep fish in the tank, theyre ceramics

and no the closest LFS is about 45 mile away in winston and they overprice things so much i just dont have the money to drive that far and spend that much.

question though,
the thermometer is a stick on zoomed thermo
how do i tell what temp it is? the blue degree or the one right past the blue thats like a whitish, all the rest are black

and how long can i keep him in freshwater?

Keep an eye on your cycle. If you tank goes through a mini cycle, once that's over I would start to raise my sg.

luvmyfatfish, I have a few lfs around me and I still order online. It's actually cheaper even with shipping and it's delivered to my door. No worry about if something is out of stock and have to go back or to another store to find everything I need. I usually save about $20 or more each time I order. I also get coupons through email and postal service to save even more.

Um. I have no clue what you're talking about, with that thermometer. A picture might help. Not all thermometers look the same, so I really don't know what you're describing, and I doubt the others do, either.

Try to get him into BW now, since he's in the new setup. Maybe give it a week first, to make sure that everything's stable before you start, but then go for it.

With the stick on thermometer, those aren't the most accurate so it really doesn't matter if your temp is 76 or 78 To be honest, I don't know which one I'm supposed to go by either, the blue or the yellow.. I suppose I could go get my digital thermometer and find out (I have a stick on one on my 75 at the moment, hehe).

They just kind of give you a general idea of what it is. As long as you're in the high 70's, you should be good, don't want to get to low 70's or into the 80's if you can help it (warm weather you might see 82 or so.. but try not to go over that).

okay guyz important question, would it hurt to put the undergravel filter i have in along with my other?

would it cause any problems?
