Re: Moving GSP to new tank... need help
Oh and also, while Drs Foster Smith has GREAT service, fast shipping and there's always the Ebates rebate program, their prices are sometimes higher than other places so it pays to shop around.
My other favorite online suppliers are:
http://www.petsolutions.com
http://www.thatfishplace.com
http://www.bigalsonline.com
Make sure you get a hydrometer that starts at freshwater (1.000) though, some start higher up and that won't do you any good.

Re: Moving GSP to new tank... need help
Thanks so much, you have all been very helpful in my relocating of puff daddy
i think ill probably leave my 5-10 gallon aerator in the new one as he really loves playing in it
does water temp stay lower than outside temp? my house stays 85 or so degrees in summer and i dont want to risk my puffer
And my last issue,
What should i feed him?
for these first couple weeks all ive been able to give him has been frozen bloodworms but i understand this is not the proper nutrition he needs
Will bloodworms and ramshorns cover him? or should i get some brine shrimp too?
And is ebay really the best place to get ramshorns?
this looks like a good diet to me

http://www.drsfostersmith.com/product/p ... atid=16865
http://www.drsfostersmith.com/product/p ... atid=16849
Would those frozen clams keep his teeth in check?
Oh and should i keep live plants or just stick with fake?
some of your tanks have absolutely beautiful decor as a whole and plants especially
and would a columbian shark, prehistoric dragon goby, bumblebee goby, clownfish, or fuzzy dwarf lionfish work out with him? at least until he gets to about 4.5 inches? or maybe a dwarf lobster (he would probably be eaten quickly eh)??

Re: Moving GSP to new tank... need help
Well, for tankmates, its usually safe to say GSP's can and will eventually kill any.. you can try some, but for one thing, all the species you listed are all different salinities.. are you going to keep this tank brackish or go full marine? Either way, tankmates must be fast enough to get away, smart enough to stay away, and non-aggressive enough to not pick on the puffer (which can sometimes be very timid, some GSP's have been known to get picked on by mollies of all things).
And don't forget, you have to take in the full grown size of any "tankmates" into account. 30 of your gallons are already "assigned" to the GSP..
Again, the decor depends on your salinity. Live plants are awesome for both looks and the fish's health, but brackish and marine seriously limit you on what you can keep alive (there's marine macro algaes you can get, if you go high brackish or full marine). Driftwood should be avoided, as it will rot in salt/brackish water.
There is an excellent feeding article in our library (look under the "Learn" tab in our header). How to get ramshorns depends.. if you have good local stores, they will often pluck them out of their tanks and sell them to you, and then you can take your old, small tank and breed them in that if you'd like. Or you can order from eBay, or Wilma is a good supplier as well (http://www.wilmasthecause.org). I always found it easier to just keep a small tank going and breed them myself.
Water temp depends.. tank lighting, filter motors, etc will all raise it up a bit, and warmer water holds less oxygen.

Re: Moving GSP to new tank... need help
You guys forgot to tell her that you can get an extra off your 1st order DFS thru Ebates with my email addy: luluwonderdog at yahoo dot com. Also, it is way cheaper to get the Master Test Kit than buying those tests seperately, even though you get a few you don't really need.
I also highly suggest using aragonite sand over gravel, to keep your pH steady, around 8. Did you read the GSP article in our Library?

Re: Moving GSP to new tank... need help
I've known a couple of guys named Skyler. And Stacy, Taylor, Alexis, and some others.
"I will give you a talisman. Whenever you are in doubt, or when the self becomes too much with you, apply the following test. Recall the face of the poorest and the weakest man whom you may have seen, and ask yourself, if the step you contemplate is going to be of any use to him or her. Will she gain anything by it? Will it restore her to a control over her own life and destiny? In other words, will it lead to freedom for the hungry and spiritually starving millions? Then you will find your doubts and your self melt away."

I say it's a boy because it's blue. I named it Skyler because it reminds me of the sky.

How long has he been in there?

Give him time. He'll be fine! He just needs to settle in.
