Would T. miurus do well by itself in a 40g tank?

Would a T. miurus do well by itself in a 40g tank? I like the idea of a colored small Puffer versus M. suvattii and M. palembangensis.

How big do they typically get? Will it tolerate scavengers like Loaches if they are provided with lots of hiding places or would it likely eventually snack on them?

I'm sure a miurus would enjoy having a 40g all to itself. That's 10 gallons more than the minimum recommended in that puffer's page in the Pufferpedia, so it would probably make a pretty good home for one.

From what people who have these fish say, I'd not put any other fish in the tank with it - they are supposed to be completely vicious.

Man, I wish we'd get miurus (miurus's? miuruses?) around where I live! I really want one.

My Puffers: 1 GSP (Microfiche) RIP, 1 Monotrete Turgidus (Leon) in a 30gal. 1 Monotrete suvattii in a 40 gal FW. 120 gallon BW with 3 juvenile Dragon Gobies (so cool). 55 gal with a 2" GSP named Hank. 180 gallon being set up for a Fahaka in the next few months!

Good luck with getting one. They are in low supply right now because of their habitat and the situation surrounding it.

It will consider the loaches a snack- mine was going after the loach in with it- had to move the loach. Best keep them alone. Unfortunately they are had to get in the US- notice that most posts on them recently are from Europe. Somehow they are getting them in the stores.

Yes, that's a good sized tank for one, and no, tankmates are not a good idea.

I haven't seen any in a while, but I haven't been out shopping for fish in a while either.

Never kept one but the tank should be more than big enough, but loaches or any tankmate would be no good, as its a substrate dweller and likes to hide and bottom dwellers would easily become food.

Mine ate a pleco it's size overnight. I think the palem is a quite colorful species.
