Post by Mariaqua »

Hi everyone!

I'm expecting pregnancy and I didn't find info if I still can take care of my tanks and fishes or if there any problem with that...

Can you help me with that? Or put a link with informations please? Because I'm worry about that...

You'll have to be careful when lifting 5 gallon buckets of water, but if you use your knees instead of your back you should be OK - if you're the one who has been doing the water changes at your house, that is. As far as harmful chemicals, I wonder about that possibility but doubt that it would be a problem or else we'd all probably know about it by now.

I'm 6 months preggo and have been doing all the maintenance on my 4 fish tanks. You should have no problems, other than the lifting of the water. That's the only bummer. It takes twice as long to siphon and fill the tanks.

If you have a cat, DO NOT CHANGE THE LITTER. Absolutely DO NOT change their litter. I guess they have some kinda parasite that's bad for mommies to be.

I don't see why not.
Just get someone else to do the lifting. ;)

Thanks a lot!

I'm doing the water changes but my husband help me if I'm asking!! So, it will be OK!

I was worried about the water and the bacteria because It would be a problem if I cannot put my hands in water anymore! I'm glad to know that's not a problem!!

For the cats, I already know for the litter and the "toxoplasmose". Thanks lilgirlkat! And I don't have cats! Just fishes!!

I'll do a test monday morning to know if I'm pregnant!!!

Thanks again!!

Thanks but my test this morning was negative, even if I had real signs this time...

And when I was going at wort after the test, my belly hurt very bad, like I was going to have my period but much much painful... I don't know what's going on but it semms that I'm probably not pregnant...

"I will give you a talisman. Whenever you are in doubt, or when the self becomes too much with you, apply the following test. Recall the face of the poorest and the weakest man whom you may have seen, and ask yourself, if the step you contemplate is going to be of any use to him or her. Will she gain anything by it? Will it restore her to a control over her own life and destiny? In other words, will it lead to freedom for the hungry and spiritually starving millions? Then you will find your doubts and your self melt away."

:( well, at least you can have fun trying again, and again and again ;)

For what its worth, when you do get pregnant, if it makes you or your family feel a bit more "safe", you can buy long gloves that will cover your skin all the way up to your armpits. That would keep you from touching any diseases, parasites, chemicals, etc as long as you don't splash yourself.

After all, there is always a risk of things like TB when working with fish.. and being pregnant can sometimes make you sensitive to things that would have never bothered you otherwise, so it might be a good idea.

yep, what Myaj said. I've been thinking about getting those gloves anyway, so I don't have to worry about what might be on my skin (ie lotions, etc) when doing water changes.

That's sounds good for the gloves! And I'm working in a lab so I can get some.

And Myaj, I'll have fun trying again and again for sure! :)
