Thanks Markrush it is good to know the tried and tested methods! Live rock does seem so bizarre but i guess the most natural is the best.

Has anyone tried the upgraded tank method? Has it stunted the growth of your puffs and what are others views on this? I am trying to be conscientious but also factual (if that makes any sense?) There will no rushing in, I have a couple of months to save for the extras needed and of course cycling the tank etc.

Just to recap and sorry if am being a pain:

1. Recommended live rock for a 50 US gallon

2. Has anyone upgraded tank size later with a porc?

3. What experiences have people had with stunting, has it happened to you? (I know this may have been a painful unexpected experience, but please share)

4. Anything else you think I should know that I have not blabbered about already?

Live Rock is KEY! Especially in a marine system (even FOWLR). It should be added in FIRST to start the bacteria culture going, I personally use crused coral/live sand mix it again adds to the bacteria growth. I myself am upgrading my tank at the end of the month to an 80gal from a 40. My puffer, mind you, is only 3". You DO need a skimmer and at least a canister filter. Get the biggest you can. I have a 50gallon filter and a 100 gallon skimmer. I'm still doing weekly water changes as well. Porcs are great puffers, but are really really really messy. They need as much space and as much filtration as you can get:)

A clownfish is okay, I prefer the aggressive species such as the maroon clown, he and my puffer get along really well. Triggers are excellent and really smart. Large Blennys are also okay.
