Palembangesis

I was wondering what the personality of Palembangensis are. I have a Fahaka that is very active and I love the little guy. I like the look of Palembangs I was just wondering how active these guys are. Every video I have seen seems to be them very inactive, but there are not many videos out there. Can anyone tell me more.

I have a palembang, and to be honest they don't move all that much (unless food is involved or they are very hungry)... but with that being said, that doesn't mean they don't move at all, but i would say be prepared to seem him just sitting around for a good 90% of the time...

So depending on if you mind the fact that he/she won't move around much, then you could always consider one of these guys???

he knows his dinner time, and will be very active during that time.....

^ i think most freshwater puffers around the 15-20cm mark are ambush predators, so maybe the Farhaka you got now is your best choice for a large active puffer, unless you maybe plan on going S/W???

I wasn't planning on a sw, I have a 40 breeder thats empty and I was wondering if there are any other than dwarfs that will be more acitve than spending alot of time under sand. Not that that's a bad thing

^ Have you checked out the PufferPedia in this forum??? there is a list of freshwater puffers that are quite small that could live in a 40 Breeder quite happily... for example you could keep 2x C.irrubesco's (or) 1x Abei, just depends i guess what your looking for?

You could get SAPs they are bigger than dwarfs, but their teeth grow like crazy. O and bronze and golden puffers are interesting.

If you want something good looking and active, look for a modesus or silus.. They can be pretty aggressive so tankmates are usually a bad idea, but they get bigger than a SAP and I think have a bit more personality (IME, SAP's are pretty hyper and neurotic).

I'm going to start looking into those thanks for the info. On a side note I have never done dwarfs I looked around on here and for some reason can't find out how often teeth need to be trimmed could someone please point me in the right direction?

I think if you feed DPs "crunchy" foods it wont be a prob.

You might look into a T Baileyi (Hairy puffer), they have a similar look to the Palembang, and mine is a little more active. Or T miurus, I have a male and a female and they swim around, although at times they do bury themselves in the sand. They will get to be about 5" or 6", but tankmates for either is not a good idea.
I have a group of Redtail Redeye puffers (C irrubesco) and they are very pretty and interesting as well, and I've got an upside down catfish in with them.
Really there's so many puffers that could suit your tank .... check around and see what's out there.

could go with a fang's puffer. the one that's left in the LFS near me is very active all of the time. and have a great personality. not sure if that's typical or not, all of them were very active, well until they got moved to a different tank and then all but one died off in a week.

Never kept them before although we had a 6" Pair in at work for some time. Rather in active only really came out at feeding time and even then were rather reserved. Nice fish though.
