Dwarf Puffer Diet

Post by orcus332 »

After the first of the year I plan on getting 3 dwarfs for my 10 gallon planted tank. I've been researching this a lot, but I'm still a bit unclear on their diet. I've seen some things that say dwarf puffers do NOT need snails because their teeth do not continue to grow like the other puffers. Is this true? If they do need snails in their diet, what species? I've heard malasian trumpet snails will break their teeth. Please let me know what you guys are feeding your dwarfs, and how often. Thanks.

Blackworms (live), bloodworms (frozen/thawed/rinsed), small snails (mainly common pond, some common ramshorns, live). Generally I rotate through that list.

Mine only ate live food - very small pond snails and live blackworms. I tried training them to eat the frozen bloodworms, never caught on. I often wonder if they would have gone with the frozen had I not introduced the live food first.

Mine used to ADORE new life spectrum pellets. I used the large ones and you could hear them grinding their teeth on them.
