Help me stock my tank...
Help me stock my tank...
I just upgraded to a 30g tank for my GSP and I would like some help stocking it with other fish. I know that GSP's can be aggressive but I've read how mollies and danios do okay with them. What are some other things I can put in the tank with it being overstocked.
As of right now, I have one GSP (had 2 but the other died yesterday, due to stress presumably), two ghost shrimp...
Thanks,

30 gallons is the minimum for GSP's, so your tank is fully stocked. Danio's are freshwater.
Grant me the serenity to accept that I can't take every puffer home;

And the wisdom to do every thing I can for the ones that I have.

I definitely don't want to overcrowd the tank, but is it really accurate to say my tank is fully stocked with only one GSP? I can't get away with throwing in a few more fish in the tank?
I just picked this up a a hobby a few weeks ago so I'm pretty new to the fish scene... so excuse my ignorance, if any...

esbe02 glad you got the remaining GSP into the 30 gallon tank. I hope you did read the article on the main page about emergency cycling. GSP are very aggressive fish so they don't take well too tank mates, I would work on getting your tank cycled and go from there. One step at a time.

Your puffer is still just a kid. Wait until he gets to the size of a Nerf ball.
You are getting sleepy... you only hear the sound of my voice... you must do water changes... water changes... water changes... water changes...

I visited my local fish shop and the owner recommended Knight Gobys as a brackish tank mate for my GSP. He didn't have any in at the time but said more would come in first thing next week.
What is your guys/gals take on this?
I been doing my own research on other brackish fish and I really like Green Scats and Monos and wonder if they would raise any issues being put in my tank.

No more fish in the 30 gallon tank is our take on this. We know more about puffers here then most fish stores do. They cannot be put into the 30 gallon tank. Your green spotted puffer needs that 30 gallons all to himself.

Re: Help me stock my tank...
GSP will be full marine, the knight goby will need to stay in brackish. Your tank is only big enough for the GSP, so there are no suitable tankmates. But, if you have your heart set on tankmates, you could try snails and shrimp (might have to replace every couple of days).LOL

Re: Help me stock my tank...
Thanks for the feedback everyone, I guess I'll hold off on tank mates and let my GSP thrive solo in the tank for now. I read how red clawed crabs would be tasty treats but my GSP might be too small and the crab could pinch/clinch onto the GSP if it tried to eat it. What size does my GSP need to be in order to safely add red clawed crabs to my tank? My GSP is about 2" right now. Thanks again...

Just take off the claws and throw the crab in. They'll pick at him until he dies.esbe02 wrote:Thanks for the feedback everyone, I guess I'll hold off on tank mates and let my GSP thrive solo in the tank for now.
