I don't know why I'm telling you this as it's not a nice story but I was at my lfs and they have a tank with 2cm gsp's in
There's 2 that are almost black, one of them was just laying on it's side and the others were eating it
I then saw it float up out of control and I thought it was dead as it had all it's fins biten off, but when I looked closely it was still alive and was trying to flap it's fins but they were just tiny stumps!
I suppose they were all just picking on the weakest guy in there
I really wanted to ask the guy if I could have the other black one to try and save him but I don't have a cycled tank
Poor GSP at lfs :(

As sad as it sounds, don't rescue them. That just puts the idea in their head that they can sell those kinds of fish, and that they'll just order more in to keep in that condition.

Two F8's, two tiny fantails and a pleco call me mommy.

awww, that's so sad.
If I see stuff like that, I make the employees take care of the situation, while I'm watching.

I did say to the guy about it and I'm pretty sure he was going to take it out after he'd served me
Why would they go black?
Is that some disease/infection that they can get?!

It's because they are sick, stressed or sleeping. I doubt in this situation it was sleeping.

Re: Poor GSP at lfs :(
I just saw the same thing at my lfs.. there was a guy trolling for dead/dying fish, so I showed him it and he took the little guy out. The only problem, I doubt he gave him a quick death. I think he just threw him in a bucket with the other dead fish. I didn't watch.
