Came home from class today and my GSP was curled up laying on the bottom of his tank. Do they do this often? It took him awhile to comeover to the glass and say hi. Once he "woke up" he was swimming around and happy. An hour later I checked on him and he was laying on the bottom again. Anyone have any ideas?
i have a 29 gallon cycling now for about 4 days and i am anxious to move him into it from his 10 gallon. He has been in the ten gallon for a month and I know he needs more area to swim and explore. Eventually I plan on getting him a 55 gallon. Anyways, help would be much appreciated, thanks.

Re: Puffer laying at bottom of tank
The answer is yes. It is normal. So long as he gets his white little belly after he starts swimming around. Puffers find a bed and lie down to rest. And when my GSP wakes up, he is like me....groggy. Takes a couple of minutes before he is back to his alert self. What I have found since I added a lot of live rock with holes in a big tank is that he looks for little holes and hiding spots and sleeps in there. Sometimes he is really hard to find.

Re: Puffer laying at bottom of tank
Thanks for the reply. I just got back from my second class and he was chilling at the bottom again. As soon as I went to look at him he cameover to say hi. It made me worry because I never noticed him do that before. Also, his belly is always white, even after he wakes up. Guess that means he is happy.

Probably is, just keep an eye on him, and till he gets into that 30g, keep up with the water changes.

My puffer does that. I figured it out when one day I had the light off all day. Apparently they sleep like that. My puffer lies on the bottom or on top of this flat ornament and curls up. When I turn the light on he gets up slowly and starts swimming around like yours does.

I really like these fish, I didn't know they had so much personality! I cannot wait to get him into his new home. Any suggestions where to get some nice fake coral caves for him to explore.

Pet stores usually have cheap ones. If your looking for fancier ones I would try fish stores and maybe online(?)

I like all the different-sized mangrove roots Petsmart carries.
