DIY Brine Shrimp Hatchery

Post by puffertt77 »

I just made a Brine Shrimp Hatchery

I'm going to feed the baby brine shrimp to my baby Guppy's

I've managed to wedge it into my tank with some other containers I had so that it get's light all night and is nice and warm (which makes them hatch quicker).

I've put a plank of wood over one side of the light so the fish can have a rest from the light though

It's really easy, take a look at this video

You can get em at almost all petsmarts, sometimes petco, and quite a few LFS's have em...

I made my BBS hatchery last night. I have it set hanging in my 55 gallon. i just used extra parts from my maxi-jet (hang on tank parts)and attached them to an upside down bottle. I used this post to help me with hatchery so thank you and i hope my setup works out :D . I'll get some pics if they live.

It is going to be my first 50 gallon FOWLR saltwater tank. I' m just saving money to buy the live rock, sand, and salt. After i get my new lights and i would have spent about $800 setting up this tank. right now the only fish we know that we are going to try and get are a mated pair of clown fish, Canthigaster coronata, or valintini, or jactator (i don't know yet) , a longnose hawk fish, a flame angel, and maybe a Copper banded Butterfly fish. we are still looking so if anyone has a suggestion for a cool fish please let me know.

its has now been about 32 hours since i started my baby brine shrimp hatchery and alot have hatched. I also found out my camera can do MACRO video so ill get a close up video of them on here. I cant wait to see if my fishies love them.

here is a better pic and video

in a freshwater bath before i fed them to my tiger barbs(as you can see there are not very many empty or unhatched eggs)

I just put mine in a half-gallon aquarium with a tiny airstone, and they hatched just fine. The fish aren't interested, though. That was rather frustrating.

By the by, Daria101, Drs. Foster and Smith have really cheap hatch mix, if you're having trouble finding the eggs.
"I will give you a talisman. Whenever you are in doubt, or when the self becomes too much with you, apply the following test. Recall the face of the poorest and the weakest man whom you may have seen, and ask yourself, if the step you contemplate is going to be of any use to him or her. Will she gain anything by it? Will it restore her to a control over her own life and destiny? In other words, will it lead to freedom for the hungry and spiritually starving millions? Then you will find your doubts and your self melt away."
