Frozen cauliflower is an excellent snail food - they absolutely love it. Just buy a cheap bag of frozen cauliflower, or if you only have fresh, break off a few florets and nuke them for 30 seconds or so and drop them in the tank (fresh cauliflower floats). Soon you will see them swarming all over the cauliflower pieces. This also makes it easy to get some of the snails for feeding your puffers, as you just pull a piece of cauliflower out and pick off the snails you want. They seem to grow really fast when fed cauliflower, too.

Re: I also fell into the petstore trap...
ghart, I got my snails from ebay! $3, with $3 shipping for 50, and as soon as i put out that last post, BOOM!!! i have snails everywhere!!!!
They have multiplied and multiplied!! i did a 50% water change and i dumped the old water into a net first to catch the baby snails and i lost count a little over 200... and that was just in the gravel! i know i had more than that on the glas, along with at least 20 egg sacs. my snail tank is heavily planted and the water level is kept about 2" from the top. i can't feed my figure8s enough!
ghart, also go to your local walmart or fish store, they usually will give you "pest" snails for free!! its awesome!
and i have been feeding mine algae wafers, but one day i put both, a peice of cucumber and a peice of cauliflower in there and i could not believe how many snails popped out and clung to them, i coud barely see the color of the vegetable!

Re: I also fell into the petstore trap...
i took the aple snail out. all that is in there now is a cory cat, 1 guppy, and a small purple dragon goby. i know the dragon goby is brackish but a friend of mine had him and his figure 8s pretty much nipped off every fin he had
. so i put it in my snail tank and am treating him with melafix. hopefully his fins will grow back while my freind sets up a new 90 gallon tank that he is going to dedicate to dragon gobies, some purple spot gudgeons, some BBGs(maybe), and some knight gobies... an all goby tank. along with about 8 apple snails, one of them is my old monster one.
as for changes to the tank, i added round rocks that i've had in other tanks and always were covered in algae within a few days in each tank i put them in(they are clean for the moment), 2 live plants, and 2 fake pants.
The snails shaving Tiki's algae facial hair, and all the white specs are snails The whole tank. you can see the snails all over the glass The poor Goby
