Help to get to eat.

Help to get to eat.
Well, my new puffer hasn't been eating. Apparently in the store they told me he hadn't been eating after all of the sea horses he had been kept with had been removed (I know, they shouldn't be kept together, hes a porcupine puffer!) That had been two days ago. I know fish can go a while without food so I'm not too worried, but how do I get him eating again without going live? Don't want to encourage nipping. I tried to feed him some clam, and some krill but it doesn't look like he's taken to eating yet. Is there any way I can do this? Thanks.

Don't feed him krill, it causes lockjaw in porcs. Krill to porcs is like crack.

Put the krill on a feeding stick to get it closer to him.

Okay, I'll try the garlic, I completely forgot about that. I'll have to buy the stick tomorrow. He's healthy otherwise thankfully, but I'm medicating the tank with marine melafix anyway. Just in case:)

- My Puffers: 1 GSP (Microfiche) RIP, 1 Monotrete Turgidus (Leon) in a 30gal. 1 Monotrete suvattii in a 40 gal FW. 120 gallon BW with 3 juvenile Dragon Gobies (so cool). 55 gal with a 2" GSP named Hank. 180 gallon being set up for a Fahaka in the next few months!

I would try raw shell on shrimp soaked in garlic. Definitely stay away from the krill. Good treat but causes too many problems in the long run.
"Darwin swings...annnnnnd a miss. Boy Jim, Chuck's suffered at the plate tonight. He's 0 for 3 and I'm not sure he's recovered from that shoulder pull a few weeks ago. I'll bet the front office is re-thinking that contract."

Always best to ask the shop to let you see it eat, before buying. Great feeding artiles in our Library.

They can eat it but in limited amounts, mainly as a treat. There is a vitamin deficiency in krill that causes lockjaw. I cannot recall who wrote the article or find it but I know someone on here has the link to it. This does include all puffers.
